His mother's been dead; her death was probably the stressor. That is a throwback to Psycho. He's been recreating women in her image, which is a reference to Vertigo.

He was abducting girls and trying to play out the scenario his dead mother had made him perform with her. That's why they all looked like her. He took the first girl's lips to put oh his mothers corpse (probably because hers had rotted off by then). When the second girl ran into the room and screamed? She had found the mother's corpse.

By the time the cops came for him, he was so delusional he imagined they were walking down the red carpet.

The entire show had callbacks to old films: Psycho, Vertigo, and at the end (I think) What Happened to Baby Jane.

This one was extremely well done.
