I try to use cases from the show to anchor whatever I'm writing (which usually takes place in the off-time, that is to say all the time we don't see happening on TV), and correlate the cases to seasons.
I guess what I'm saying is that there's a certain plasticity to the canon's timeline, and that this can be a wonderful thing.
