Two episodes in a ROW? What is the meaning of this this?

This is the discussion post for Episode 9x21 - "What Happens In Mecklinburg ". Watch out for SPOILERS in the comments.

Not too much to say about this one. I don't remember hearing the term Injustice Collector since "Elephant's Memory" in season three but I could be wrong. The unsub storyline seemed plausible enough. The pig masks were a bit cartoonish but I've seen weirder things connected to Frat houses so why not?

Derek's personal life felt tacked on. We've heard almost nothing about this girl since the fall so he declaration of love at the end came out of the blue for me. I did like JJ calling him on his behavior. More build up would have made her speech more effective however.

I didn't even know that her name was Savannah until last night when I read the synopsis on tv.com. Why is he declaring his for a character we hardly know?

Sarcastic comment is sarcastic

Because why spend valuable time scripting and producing meaningful personal interactions for these characters when you can just imply them in the black holes between episodes and let the fans fill in the blanks for you?

OMG, this show fails at character development every. single. time.

*facepalm*

It doesn't really makes fans want to invest much into their relationship. After the way they set it up, I doubt it will last.

I guess the writers think it's time Derek committed to someone after living his whole life as a 'playa' Sounds like he had valid reasons for fearing intimacy over the years, but it still felt weird in the episode.

It did. I thought they'd go through more than just a couple of evenings together before he decided to say, "I love you" the way he did. And the fact that he's willing to do anything for her... does this mean he might quit his job at the BAU? I hope not.

Well they only showed us a couple of evenings but apparently the relationship has been going on for months so a declaration of love is plausible. Just felt out of the blue since the viewers weren't treated to the progression of the relationship.

I doubt that 'do anything for her' is any more than writer hyperbole at this point. If s10 turns out to be the last then it might have more meaning. Perhaps a foreshadowing of what will happen to the Morgan character at the end of next year.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the fact that s10 might be the last. I hope not, but if it is, then I guess Morgan quitting does seem like a possibility.

The pig masks were a bit cartoonish but I've seen weirder things connected to Frat houses so why not?

When I was in college, "pig parties" meant something entirely different: the goal was for each frat member to invite the ugliest girl possible, for the dates not to be forewarned of the selection criteria but to be allowed to figure it out themselves, and for a Queen Pig to be declared at the climax.

(I've never heard a firsthand account of this practice; it always seems to be the fraternity down the block, leading me to hope that this is purely an urban legend.

Also, not to be confused with pig pickin' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig_pickin') or the Pig Parties (http://www.grassrootsonline.org/what-you-can-do/host-event/pig-party) devoted to restoring heirloom pig breeds to Haiti.)
