i know it won't because it would fuck with the continuity
If William is a pedophile, he may or may not have hurt his own kid. If he is a bad guy *and* he did hurt Reid at a young age, Reid probably didn't dare tell anyone and then eventually repressed the memories. Thus, William wouldn't feel the need to desert them at the time. He later abandons them when he's older, not because of his own deviations but because he's weak and cannot handle the deterioration of his wife's mind.
It would not make sense that she would stay with the source of danger for the next four years, and then even ask William to take Reid with him when he left.
Also, if this is all true, it is also possible that Diana sensed that Reid was in danger at age 4 but was not aware of the source of the danger. Not ever thinking that her husband would ever hurt Reid, she would insist on moving and *unknowingly* bringing the source of danger with them. And if she never knew, she wouldn't hesitate to ask William to take Reid, knowing that she wasn't capable of taking care of him.
i'm kind of scared it will end up being really anti-climatic at the end
I agree, I don't want this to end up being anti-climatic. The last episode had such a major cliffhanger and it's been building up for viewers for a week now, it would be disappointing if there isn't a big revelation. It doesn't have to be that William hurt Reid but I hope it isn't as simple as dad found the body. I felt that 'Damaged' (I think that's the name of the Rossi episode) was anti-climatic after building up the case and Rossi's long-term attachment to it since being introduced to his character and I was kind of disappointed.
