Because I'm curious like that
In spirit of the show hopefully coming back soon :) CM really made me realize how many great potential ships there are that I never would have thought about till I found fandom.

My opinion, based on no evidence at all except for the fact that the showrunners are known to be sneaky in the extreme, is that they set up both of those for no other reason than to deconstruct and deny them. A way of shutting down shippery and/or network pressure before it even started.
