What have you learned from watching Criminal Minds?

[info]melliyna and I have been tossing this around for the past few days, and I thought it would be nice to open it up to all of you.

What have you learned from watching Criminal Minds?

Also, we seem to have started a #hashtag on twitter: #ThingsIHaveLearnedFromCM. Come play! :)

Here are some of the #ThingsIHaveLearnedFromCM:
  • It is okay to not be okay. The people who are always okay? Are a little scary.
  • The only person who can actually save you is yourself. Keep going.
  • If you don't take control of your life, your life will take control of you.
  • Always, always, always lock the back door!
  • Watch out for the twitchy ones [tardive dyskinesia]
  • People who lie look down and to the left.
  • There are no excuses. There may be explanations, but there are no excuses.
  • Doing nothing is a still a choice.
  • Don't underestimate the geeky ones :)
And I'll leave the rest for you :)

Yep, I think this one is pretty much a myth.

I don't think most people are that conscious of their body language. I guess it's one of those that depend on the situation. And it can be useful.

The idea that people who are lying typically exhibit particular kinds of behaviour, eg. gaze aversion or hand movements, has not been found in research. In fact, one study showed that people were more likely to identify a liar if they just guessed, rather than trying to study non-verbal cues.

Most people who are lying make an effort to be conscious of their body language unless they're just sloppy or don't care about getting caught.
