Fic: How to Fight Loneliness (Reid/Prentiss)
I've been posting daily updates at
bau_fic but it occurred to me that I hadn't posted a link here. Rectifying that now!
Title: How to Fight Loneliness
Author: MadLori
Rating: FRT, with a sprinkling of FRM form time to time.
Pairing: Reid/Prentiss
Genre: Het, Casefile/Romance
Warnings: Character death (not one of the current main cast), flangst
Setting: Proposes the start of an R/P relationship after season 5.
Summary: After almost a year of marriage, Emily Prentiss and Spencer Reid were just starting to think they were getting pretty good at it. But when an old friend pulls the team into a case in Dallas, TX, things get complicated fast. Specters from their past reappear, one murder leads to a series of crimes spanning an entire lifetime, and the UNSUB’s last stab at glory puts the whole team through the emotional wringer…and two newly-married agents through their most grueling trial yet.
Notes on story genre: I’m describing this fic as “casefile/romance.” The casefile portions of the story take place a couple of years from current canon. Those sections are interspersed with substantial flashbacks, some spanning several chapters, which depict how Reid and Prentiss went from friends and coworkers to husband and wife. The front half of the story is flashback-heavy, the back half is casefile-heavy. So be warned that the casefile portion of the story takes awhile to get going, and the first half is more about the relationship.
This story is complete. It is thirty-nine chapters total; I am posting one chapter per day. Links to the first seven chapters are below.

Oh, and what the hell is "flangst"? Is is some kind of contraction that I've never heard of or is it just a typo?

"Flangst" is a contraction of "fluffy angst." It's often used to describe fics that contain...well, fluffiness but also angst. Since this fic contains both significant fluffiness but also significant angst, it seemed apropros!

I hate writing summaries with the fiery passion of a thousands suns. I suck at it, too. I'm a great abuser of the pull-quote; I try to tell myself that it makes the fic look mysterious, but I think more often than not it just makes me look annoying. ;)

Thanks for asking. I was wondering myself.
