Paget signs a deal

Brewster just closed a deal to return to the veteran CBS crime drama, and she will be in almost every episode next season. But Cook, whose option for next season was not picked up, will be gone after wrapping her character J.J.'s storyline in two episodes early next season.

I hear Brewster's pact is for 10 out of 13, which means that she will be in nearly every episode. The actress had been approached to continue as a regular on the show but for a reduced number of episodes; now the reduction seems to be pretty small.

Wait, what is this about 13 episodes? Aren't we getting a full season? I'm confused now!

i'm starting to think they have plans to cancel this show. i mean, they didn't even order a full season? or did they and Paget is just signed for half of it?
anyhoo, feels like they're trading it for the spin-off, either by destroying the original cast or cancelling the show.
*sigh*

I'm inclined to agree

It's odd that they only ordered 13 eps

Unless they plan to air half a season and then air the spinoff in CM's time slot? (I did read somewhere that there were plans to air the failoff midseason?)

GAHHH I NEED TO STOP SPECULATING

CBS has done stupider things than cancel a hit show before (11th Hour for Medium anyone?).

But I can't see them canceling this show.

13 is not the order for the show itself. 10 of 13 is just the ratio of shows that Brewster is contracted to appear in; in other words, around 76.92%. I'm guessing if she ends up appearing in only 60% of the shows, she gets paid for the difference, but that's a guess.

OK, I guess I just got the impression from the comments here that they only ordered 13 eps

I can see that happening for a new show, but it did strike me as odd that they'd do it for an established one

If you look at the actual source article, it's clearer than the excerpt here: I hear Brewster's pact is for "10 out of 13", which means that, extrapolated over the 22-episode season, she will be in at least 17 episodes.

"I'm starting to think they have plans to cancel this show."

That was the first thought that popped into my head...especially considering all the drama about the spin-off. They're so excited about it that they're screwing up with the original. If it's not broken don't try to fix it...and that includes creating other versions of the 'unbroken' thing.
