Paget signs a deal

Brewster just closed a deal to return to the veteran CBS crime drama, and she will be in almost every episode next season. But Cook, whose option for next season was not picked up, will be gone after wrapping her character J.J.'s storyline in two episodes early next season.

I hear Brewster's pact is for 10 out of 13, which means that she will be in nearly every episode. The actress had been approached to continue as a regular on the show but for a reduced number of episodes; now the reduction seems to be pretty small.

Ffffff. I'm going to miss AJ like burning. I don't know. I love the rest of the cast so much but I'm just so furious that they did this and especially with how it all went down. :-/ I can't imagine CM without JJ. Well, I can. Her name was Agent Todd and all I kept asking was "when's JJ coming back? Is JJ coming back yet? I can has JJ?" :-(:-(:-(:-(

That's a definite improvement. 1 down, 1 more to go. I'm not even fond of the character JJ but I want her to stay. Maybe with more pressure they'll bring her back.

You can keep fighting, but the pressure likely didn't do anything. When this story broke a couple weeks ago, it was that Cook's contract wasn't being renewed and Brewster's episode commitment was being reduced and that's where we are today.

IF THERE ARE ONLY 13 EPISODES IN THE SEASON I'M GOING TO BE SO PISSED!!! And this is sad news for A.J., but I'm sure she'll be able to find spotlight work soon. And although I would rather Paget be in all of the episodes, more is better than less, I suppose.

That 10 out of 13 means that if they get a full order, say 26 episodes, she'll be in 20 of those episodes. Or the usual 22, she will probably be in 18.

I think it means that Paget will be in 10 out of every 13 episodes, over a 22-episode season. I hope that what's they mean.

i'm starting to think they have plans to cancel this show. i mean, they didn't even order a full season? or did they and Paget is just signed for half of it?
anyhoo, feels like they're trading it for the spin-off, either by destroying the original cast or cancelling the show.

I agree with what was said about the ratio. 10/13 is a percentage, not a number of eps. From what I heard a while back, and I have no idea from where, CBS ordered 22.

JJ's departure will be most likely entirely the writers' choice, and I highly doubt they would send her off in such a negative way.

I know how douchey TPTB have been lately, but if you're gonna switch a cast member and cut another's screen time, I would ask that the reduced character have a good share of lines in the episodes she appears or, god forbid, a centric episode next season in exchange.

If this is true, I can deal with this. At first they said they were "drastically" reducing her amount of eps. Now it's this. I'm not happy, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

I'm curious to see how they'll write out JJ and how they'll handle Emily's random absences. Will she just be like "lol u gaiz go, I'm gonna take a nap on da couch all ep"? Maybe she can be missing for the requisite chunk of episodes doing overseas work or some shit. That way they can get it out of the way and fully focus on the character when she comes back. Plus Paget can do other cool stuff during that time.

I'm hoping the writers will use Prentiss' absences to give some more insight to her as a character, like maybe she has to go do something for her mother and we get to learn about it, or something. Although, wouldn't it kinda suck if they do, because hello? You've had how long to give us some backstory and character building, and you wait until it's because her episodes are reduced?! What?! Or hey, maybe this time we'll get Prentiss!peril instead of Reid!peril, and she'll have to be in the hospital or on medical leave for a couple of episodes. :P At least there are some good possibilities. :)

And I have to admit, I kinda like JJ more than Prentiss, so I'm very sadface about AJ. And she's been with the show since the beginning (or very, very close to the beginning anyway), so this is really shitty all around. :( But hey, at least she gets two episodes now instead of just one or even none...

I just have this weird feeling that they are going to kill off JJ and have Emily severely hurt the same time JJ gets killed. Thus limiting Emily's screen time and getting rid of JJ's character. Then after this season, either Criminal mind will not get a 7th season or Paget will be let go also.

Ugh, I hope this all works out. I still love Criminal Minds and I really hope that the show doesn't suffer from its network's stupidity.

Either way, I'm glad Paget's gonna be in more episodes than I had anticipated. I'm hoping her absences will be actually explained not just random pop ins/outs from time to time. Lots of hoping happening for next season.

10 out of 13 makes sense...usually a show gets a half a season order, then if its doing well, they get an order for another 10-13 episodes. So its nothing to worry about. If Paget is only missing from 3 eps of the first half of the season and nearly the same amount in the 2nd half, I can live with that. I'm just relieved she'll be an integral part of the show still.

13 means they can shut the whole shebang down at halftime if the ratings don't hold. Sounds like the PTB are waiting for CM to wind down enough to cancel, to be honest. But with the writers all excited about teh new Shiny spinoff and the hash they made out of the last half of Season 5, I'm not sure WHAT #6 is gonna be like---'Law and Order' meets 'The Office' or 'Fringe' mashed up with 'CSI'. Either way, they've jumped so many sharks now they should ship the entire BAU off to 'Deadliest Catch'.

I assume she means that was written into her new contract, and not that, say, CM will be canceled after this season (although I believe it will be).
