Brewster just closed a deal to return to the veteran CBS crime drama, and she will be in almost every episode next season. But Cook, whose option for next season was not picked up, will be gone after wrapping her character J.J.'s storyline in two episodes early next season.

I hear Brewster's pact is for 10 out of 13, which means that she will be in nearly every episode. The actress had been approached to continue as a regular on the show but for a reduced number of episodes; now the reduction seems to be pretty small.

Wait, what is this about 13 episodes? Aren't we getting a full season? I'm confused now!

Jordan was designed to be a disposable character, one who would clash with the team and realize she wasn't cut out for life at the BAU. If Jordan had been introduced as a new regular, I don't know that they couldn't have made that work.

That said, I thought Jordan had a better storyline than JJ ever got.

IA about Jordan having a better storyline than JJ ever had, sadly

I think knowing they had just a few episodes with which to tell a story about Jordan Todd, they were able to focus in and craft a story arc for her. Elle's exit storyline was the same. Those two are still arguably the best multiepisode storylines they've managed to tell about female characters.

With JJ, I don't think they ever had a plan. Other than the repetitive fretful mommy stuff, it was random bits thrown in here and there, like the suddenly suicidal sister.

IA, the show never used JJ very well

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like she'll even get a very strongly-written exit arc like Elle did, with only two episodes (one of which I assume is the conclusion to last season's two-parter finale)
