The point here is not people bawwwing over the departure of their favorite characters. It never has been. antoinettemason has summed up nicely why the situations with Elle and Gideon are not the same thing and why the spinoff tends to get dragged into this whole kerfuffle. People are upset b/c CBS's actions with AJ and Paget (along with their actions on other shows) strongly imply a broader social issue (sexism) that goes way beyond fannish butthurt.
