Rachel Confirms s7 Casting Spoilers

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that whether or not you loved/hated Ashley Seaver, Rachel Nichols as an actress is a human being who did not deserve to be sidelined liked this. She obviously loved her job and her co-workers, and is justifiably upset about this.

CBS pulled the same stunt with Rachel that they did with AJ and Paget last year. Please keep that in mind. CBS might have fixed one of the symptoms by bringing AJ and Paget back, but they have in no way solved the problem of treating their actresses as disposable.

If you can, please send Rachel some love on twitter.

Except that Erica Messer, the new show runner and former co-producer, has said repeatedly that Rachel would be staying. She said that just because AJ was back, that did not mean Rachel was leaving, because they are not the same person. She also said they had story-lines in the works for Seaver that would explain her presence in the BAU more clearly. If you want the link to the article with the quote from Erica Messer, I can get it for you.

She (Rachel Nichols) was blindsided. That's unacceptable.

Except Messner never said Rachel would be staying. I'll get the actual quote for you: “No, it doesn’t necessarily mean [she's leaving]." Not necessarily leaving does not automatically equate with Seaver is staying. It means Seaver may be staying, if Messner had her way. Which she didn't. The decision was up to ABC Studios and CBS if they wanted to pay for an 8th full-time cast member, which they didn't. Even Rachel's tweet that she was "slated to return" showed she knew it wasn't a done deal. "Cross my fingers nothing changes!". Since Messner *did* specifically say they have to assume they have all the characters when returning to writing on May 31st (unless they heard otherwise), I'm assuming Thomas also heard he was "slated to return" as well. Rachel wasn't blind-sided. Hopeful, then disappointed. But no way is this news coming to her from nowhere, like it did for AJ and Paget. Rachel's known since AJ re-signed her position was tenuous at best. That was even reported by Deadline.com. Rachel basically needed to hope Paget wouldn't come back in order to secure her own future on the show.

As to having storylines in the works? No, that wasn't said either. Potential yes, actual no. While I'm sure they have ideas on what they'd like to do with Seaver should Rachel continue on the show (I'm guessing her stupid daddy-is-a-serial-killer backstory), season seven has NOT been written, and can easily be adjusted. It's done all the time, and they've certainly done it on this show before.
