Rachel Confirms s7 Casting Spoilers

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that whether or not you loved/hated Ashley Seaver, Rachel Nichols as an actress is a human being who did not deserve to be sidelined liked this. She obviously loved her job and her co-workers, and is justifiably upset about this. 

CBS pulled the same stunt with Rachel that they did with AJ and Paget last year. Please keep that in mind. CBS might have fixed one of the symptoms by bringing AJ and Paget back, but they have in no way solved the problem of treating their actresses as disposable.

If you can, please send Rachel some love on twitter.

I wasn't expecting Rachel not to come back. Ten days ago, she tweeted saying that she was back for season seven. And then they waited for her to leave the country for vacation and then sprung this out. And she's obviously just finding out about this over twitter, just like AJ and Paget did with CM, just like Kirsten did with SB, and it's just so incredibly infuriating.

I have no issues with Rachel but find it completely unfair to compare AJ's and Paget's situations with Rachel being fired. Rachel Nichols was brought on with the original intent of just a few episodes and an obvious replacement for bad decisions on CBS' part. Additionally, the part of Seaver was never written intelligently.

While I don't wish the actress any misfortune, I'm relieved the powers that be woke up and had the character exit as well as canceling the poorly created spinoff

It's unfair to compare one actress being fired without warning and letting her find out via fans on twitter to the same thing happening to another actress? Less than two weeks ago, Rachel was certain that she was slated in for season seven. They told her she would be back and then fired her with no warning.

This, times a million. I loved Rachel and Seaver, and I hate CBS so hard right now for the way they treat their cast. Rachel was put into such a shitty situation and she did the best she could - I really hope they'll bring her back at least as a guest star or something. I'm so stoked about Paget returning, but the way CBS treated Rachel (and Kirsten - firing over twitter? Gross) is bullshit.

i wondered when i saw the news over on the cmfans blog whether rachel was given a heads up about what was about to happen, given that all her tweets at that point had indicated that she would still be back next season. looks like my initial suspicion that she was blindsided like a.j. and paget were last year was correct.

I get all the CBS hate, I do, but... CM is NOT produced by CBS alone. In fact, it's produced by the Mark Gordon Company in association with ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios. CBS is only partially to blame. Just saying.

I don't feel all that sorry for Rachel. She's an actress, this comes with the job. If she wants stability, then she's in the wrong profession. Her character wasn't accepted, and with Paget back the cast is full. This isn't in anyway near a comparison to AJ/Paget. Those two ladies were blindsided. Rachel OTOH was not. Even if she wasn't aware of fan reaction (which she was), she's aware of the business. As soon as AJ was hired back, she must have realized her days were likely numbered. Rachel basically had to hope that *Paget* would lose her job in order for her to stay. Financially, she should have seen the writing on the wall. Everyone else did. She's the low man on the totem pole. That's how it works in the real world, so the acting profession is no different.

Lastly, Rachel was never told she was returning. She was told she was "slated to return, cross my fingers nothing changes". Obviously she knew it wasn't a done deal. Most likely it was the showrunners telling all the actors the same thing Erica Messner told the fans in the chat they gave a week or so ago: that until told otherwise, they assume they have all the characters to deal with when going back to work (writers start on May 31st). So even Thomas Gibson is "slated to return" even though he currently has no contract.

And you know, no matter how much this is a "male-dominated" show or this is how TV works or we should have seen this coming, that still doesn't make it right, or ok, or mean that the people who did like her should just go "oh well, should have expected this, guess we have no reason to be upset about it". People are going to feel however they're going to feel about it. Some will think this is unfair, some won't care, some never liked her character anyway. Just give the people that did like her some space to bitch.

And honestly, will the men on this show EVER be in jeopardy? Think about it. Joe and Thomas are the "big names" and Morgan and Reid are fan(girl) favorites. Firing them straight off would be stupid on their part, so they're not going to do it. The girls however? No one cares about them, so we can just get rid of them. AJ and Paget were not the last hired when they were fired... Joe was. The guys will not leave this show unless it's of their own volition. And I'm sorry but that's a little bit sexist.

I'm a lurker, and not a very good one at that, but I just had to comment and say to all those who didn't immediately jump on the OMG SEXIST COMPANY IS SEXIST high horse? I love you for thinking things through.

Might CBS be secretly sexist? I suppose it's possible, although, last I checked Nina Tassler was definitely female. And from my understanding, she's one of the main people making the decisions of who stays and who goes. And, though I don't watch as many CBS shows as I once did, I can't think of any other situation to back up this supposed sexism. Let me know if I'm wrong on that.

I understand being upset over a favorite getting axed but this just seems a little over the top. Acting is a JOB like any other. Last one in is first one out, that's just how it works. I'm sure many of us have been that person before, and while it sucks it has nothing to do with sex, or race, or anything else. And if it did, well you have a nice little lawsuit to follow up on.

Now, if Nichols was not notified by CBS, then yes, that is a very douchebag move. HOWEVER, considering the way things leak these days, they may very well have intended to do so. Being outsiders that's something we just can't know. And to assume so much when we really, truly know so very little?

All that said, I'm sorry for Nichols in the way I'm sorry for anyone else who loses their job. It sucks, and I hope she finds something else soon. She seems like a really awesome chick, so I'm sure she'll find something worthy of her talents. Because the way they were righting her? It's my opinion that CM just wasn't it.

Women can be sexist. It is called internalized misogyny. And the way Nichols was treated was wrong, no matter how you feel about the character, no matter that it happens all the time. She was not told she was fired, she had to find out via twitter. That is not okay. And the fact that none of the actors have been treated at all badly in any way while every single one of the actresses has been mistreated in some way is not okay and is sexist.

Yes, this. This is pissing me off so much. Yes, it happens. It happens all the time. As long as people sit back and say "that's just the way it is" it will keep happening. Sexism only shrinks when people stand up and fight it. I, for one, try to stand up against sexism or any other ism when I see them happening. And sexism is never, ever justified. Ever. I don't see how that can be up for debate. And yes, Rachel is just an actress. She might be in a higher class in society than others. She might be privileged in other areas. That doesn't make the treatment of her okay, and it doesn't mean we shouldn't be upset at how she is being treated.

Uh, what? I've been keeping away from this community for a while, and now I'm reminded why. Whether or not you're upset over this news, can't people just leave it alone and let others have their own opinions? Really? o.0

As to this news, I'm disappointed. Both about the manner in which Rachel was let go, and that Seaver will be gone. I liked her character. Sure, she's new, but come on. All of the characters have been new at one point or another. They weren't "fleshed out" that quickly either. It really takes the whole first season to get a good grasp on the main characters, and it took me awhile to warm up to Rossi. Now, he's definitely a favorite character of mine. Given time, I'm sure Seaver would have gotten more story arcs and been more fleshed out as a character. If you haven't noticed, this season has been crazy for everyone, including, I'm sure, the writers. Give 'em a break. I'm with Erica Messer, when she said that it's unfortunate that so many were so quick to write off Seaver's character just because Rachel happens to look a bit like AJ. If you could get past that, she was, to me, a good character. I loved her first episode; very powerful. It actually brought me to tears, and it's not often that CM does that...

As for Rachel Nichols, I really like her as well. I think she was a great addition to the cast, and it's not her fault in the least that she was brought in after AJ and Paget were fired. She did the best she could with the situation, and I have to give her kudos for being so great about it all. She's very talented, and I'm very sad to see her go. From backstage pictures I've seen from this season, she fit in very well with our kooky cast, and they had a lot of fun. :) I'm sure they'll all miss her as well.

And honestly? Season five was terrible. I hated it. But season six was actually pretty good. I enjoyed a lot of the episodes, which is more than I can say for all of season five. Ick. I pretend that season never happened, kthx. So while I missed AJ and Paget, I think the 'shake up' might have been a good thing. The writers really had to step up their game to make everything work this season, and I think they did a good job. Again, far better than season five. I own those DVDs of course, and I never watch them. :( Season six? I'm sure I'll wear them out soon enough. ;)

It's getting a little heated, isn't it? I'm trying to share my perspective as someone who works in television, and (up until a month ago) held a temporary position on the CBS lot... but the showbiz perspective isn't exactly well-perceived. :(

My heart goes out to Rachel Nichols. She seems like a wonderful person, which is such a rarity for this town. I hope she finds a new and rewarding project soon.

I am pretty sure that if any Hollywood agent would lose their head if they let their client know via twitter that they lost their job that the agent would lose their job quicker than Jerry McGuire and the "Memo"

I don't know about Seaver, as I haven't seen 6th season yet, I am sorry for the actress to be treated as what is perceived as poorly (I don't know the details of everything, but on the outside it does appear to stink abysmally), but to be honest, even without knowing anything just about anything about the recent season, I did the math. She was as a character perceived quite poorly from what i heard (and it does happen *coughJoInSupernaturalcough*, often for no reason, people loving something are simply like that, unreasonable, you never know how they take things) and with all our ladies returning, the cast would have been simply too big (and expensive).

If I had to make an unbiased decision as a producer and cut one out, it would be probably her. Not because I have something against her, just pure tactical decision.

Rachel seems like a splendid girl and she was getting on well with everybody, so it must really hurt her, but that's how jobs come and go, and not only in show business. This could happen to any one of us in our jobs and nobody would cry over it, it just happens.

I wish to Rachel the best and maybe she will come around for a few episodes (like Jo in Supernatural) and be more liked, one can never tell, but at the moment, as much as it hurts, it was probably a tactical decision, to let her go.
