Rachel Confirms s7 Casting Spoilers

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that whether or not you loved/hated Ashley Seaver, Rachel Nichols as an actress is a human being who did not deserve to be sidelined liked this. She obviously loved her job and her co-workers, and is justifiably upset about this. 

CBS pulled the same stunt with Rachel that they did with AJ and Paget last year. Please keep that in mind. CBS might have fixed one of the symptoms by bringing AJ and Paget back, but they have in no way solved the problem of treating their actresses as disposable.

If you can, please send Rachel some love on twitter.

I agree with everything you just said. :) It may sound mean, but television is a not an easy or kind industry.

I think that's the way things go nowadays though. Social media moves at the speed of light. It seems to me these aren't cases of someone calling Deadline before Rachel and/or Kristen. What's going on is paperwork filled out, reporters picking it up, and news spreading before the official phone call can be made. When an earthquake happens, you follow twitter. You don't tune into CNN if you want the most up-to-date news.

I also disagree CBS is showing lack of respect to the *female* actresses. I think that they happen to be female is simply a by-product. IIRC, the *male* lead of Without a Trace found out their show was canceled from a reporter.

Oh, I'm not arguing that it's okay. I do however think technology is so fast we haven't quite figured out how to go faster. The phone call to Rachel very well could have taken more time than the tweet to her did. I don't know about you, but I for one check my twitter feed way before I check my phone log.

And if the female Charlie Sheen pulled in as much money for CBS as real Charlie Sheen did? Hell yeah I can see them keeping her.

IMO, CBS isn't sexist. They're just greedy.

What is going on with Kristen? You are the second person to mention Kristen and Twitter with the sounds of it being that she's been fired as well? Or are you referring to the cancellation of Suspect Behaviour which meant that she lost out on the second job she was doing?

If Rachel found out that she was not returning to the show via social media then I agree that it is a lousy way to tell someone they are fired. I wish her all the best.

Kristen first learned Suspect Behavior was canceled from her twitter followers. Much like Rachel possibly learning from twitter about Seaver's fate, I doubt that was the intention of her employers (ie that her employers expected the the fans to be the one to tell her the news first). It just happened news got to them faster on their twitter feeds than from their actual managers.

But that says that they are being slow to let them know. The first thing they should have done is let them know they had lost their job before the public is told of the series being cancelled or of the character being removed. As soon as they made the decision, before they told a single other person, they should have told them.

Yep, I do, because I live and work this industry.

This "systemic inequality" crap that people keep complaining about is 100% viewer created. The female audience will bitch and moan about how the want more female representation on the screen, but when such a product comes out, nine times out of ten they won't watch. Sorry, but people watch television and movies for the men, not the women. It's statistics. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the audiences for creating that situation in the first place.
