Rachel Confirms s7 Casting Spoilers

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that whether or not you loved/hated Ashley Seaver, Rachel Nichols as an actress is a human being who did not deserve to be sidelined liked this. She obviously loved her job and her co-workers, and is justifiably upset about this.

CBS pulled the same stunt with Rachel that they did with AJ and Paget last year. Please keep that in mind. CBS might have fixed one of the symptoms by bringing AJ and Paget back, but they have in no way solved the problem of treating their actresses as disposable.

If you can, please send Rachel some love on twitter.

Yes, but CBS pays for everything, really. The Mark Gordon Company and ABC studios wouldn't produce the show at all if there was no network backing. So, CBS is the one likely to interfere with creative decisions.

Not necessarily... Yes, CBS is the one paying for the show, but the producers are ultimately responsible for anything and everything related to the show's production, including casting decisions. Coming from working on CBS productions, I can say that CBS as a network doesn't really mess with the creative direction of established shows that pull in good ratings and satisfy advertisers.

Yes, but Criminal Minds has never been an advertiser's wet dream and has been CBS's black sheep from the start. While it pulls in very solid ratings, CM's audience skews slightly older than 18 to 49 (It think it make have been 25 to 55 or something). And it's been a hit show in spite of CBS's lack of promotion. I mean they haven't had a promo shoot since season 3. That's 3 seasons ago, when Joe came in. I'm not even sure they had their own panel at the upfronts, because no one's said anything. They've had their funding constantly cut, having to fire their best writers two seasons ago. This season has been weak because we've had a lot of one-shot writers coming in.

Actually I'm fairly certain this is the reason CM is one of the shows that's being messed with. It's like it's not actually their show.
