Wasn't MGG in a movie with this same plot?

This is the discussion post for Episode 8x06 - "The Apprenticeship". Watch out for SPOILERS in the comments.

Yep, it's called, "How to Be a Serial Killer". It was on Netflix for a while, but I haven't seen it on there lately. MGG had some pretty funny, but R-rated, lines.

I don't think I'm going to be able to watch this one because of The Voice (I'll be recording two other shows) :/

[identity profile] lewie45.livejournal.com 2012-11-08 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
do you have time shifting? You may be able to get it on another station at later time.

[identity profile] miss-sarac.livejournal.com 2012-11-08 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
no & I've never even heard of that, but I wish I did have it. It sounds handy.

It's great, I have to use it Monday nights because there's lots that I watch. I can remember a couple years ago that I could watch a show at 7pm airing on the east coast that wasn't airing in my area till 10pm.

I love love love time-shifting. It's the only way I can manage to watch/record everything I want to see on Monday nights because there are three shows airing in the same time slot that I want to watch -- Hawaii Five-0, Castle, and Canada's Worst Driver. It also means that I get to see Five-0 at four o'clock in the afternoon, three hours before the U.S. east coast sees it.

[identity profile] lewie45.livejournal.com 2012-11-17 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, how addicting is Canada's Worst Driver. I don't watch it regularly but when they have marathons on I will sit there for hours watching it. I really am shocked at how bad they are and that they are still on the road. Though there are some courses I think I would flunk.

I think I've found a new kindred spirit, what other shows do you like to watch. You're right about Monday. Monday has so many good shows. If I was paying for the satelite, I'd consider getting Fibe which gives you the option to PVR four shows at the same time, yet I actually don't need it with the time shifting.

I used to watch Grey's at 7pm back when it was really good. Now all the shows I'd like to watch early I'm usually at work for anyway.

Time-shifting is offered by some cable companies. What it is, is the ability to get your TV stations from different markets, so for example if you live on the west coast you can get channels from other time zones. Like for example, I live on the west coast but I can get channels from Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Detroit, and St. John's. So I have three or four choices for what time I want to watch most shows.

OMG....He's so cute!!!! Swing...it's all in the hips

Man, Shaggy has aged. Really like the episode, but the ending was too hokey for me. Beyond predictable, and really? Reid just shows up for the game? No practice? No intro to the rest of the team?

[identity profile] faith-manages03.livejournal.com 2012-11-08 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. I loved the case, but the bookends, just. *twitch*

[identity profile] full-metal-ox.livejournal.com 2012-11-08 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if anyone else caught an intriguing bit of potential foreshadowing in Reid's comment that there comes a time when the student no longer needs the teacher; could friction with Blake be in the offing?

It was cliché and a tiny part of me wanted for him to miss it, just to make it more believable, but then they were laughing at him, and the show is pretty dark, so I found myself rooting for him to success and nearly jumped with joy when he did ;)

I think it was more with the happy vibes I get every time while watching the gang together doing some pretty normal, happy stuff. I think I can stomach the cheesiness of the last scene, because it showed me what I love about this show. It's the only one I actually get this feeling about the whole gang. They are one big family. It's the first show i watch without shipping anyone *gasp* I always ship someone (ok I'm a tiny Morgan/Garcia but it was way back) and a first show i care for all main characters equally and not off-handedly. I enjoy every interaction between the team members no matter the combinations. I love this show :)

oops, got a bit carried away with my rambling...

Oh, Reid... I can relate to the awkwardness of sports. My experiences with things involving balls usually involved a lot of ducking, or in the case of softball, sitting in the furthest corner of the outfield making daisy chains the entire time regardless of which team was supposed to be out there.

I hear you; I'm a kinesthetic halfwit whose lone school athletic ribbon came from a competitive eating event.

Not bad, not bad. The unsubs this week were messed up, especially the younger one. Getting aroused by watching your sister get raped and murdered? That's a whole new level of f**ked up.

BTW Am I the only one who went 'Omg, no, no, no!' was when he started petting those puppies? If he had hurt those puppies on-screen, I would've lost it. I can't stand animal abuse.

The game at the end was cheesy but cute nonetheless. It's nice to see another hint at the team stalker. Could he be copycatting their cases?

IThat's too specific a pronoun to assign the Mystery Stalker as yet--I'm continuing to think of them as the Ninja UNSUB. (That's a reference you'll get if you're a Detective Conan/CaseClosed fan; if not, a convention of that series is a shadowy, gender-indeterminate figure in black who represents the UNSUB-To-Be-Announced in the heroes' envisioning of the crime scene.) That said, I'm hoping it won't turn out to be Beth--we've already gone that route with Doyle, Battle, and the FIsher King, and, anyway, it looks as though Beth has reached a point of sufficient familiarity with the team that she ccould've attended as Hotch's guest, and taken whatever photos she pleased openly. (Disclaimer: I am not personally familiar with whatever security protocols apply to FBI/Secret Service ballgames, and am open to correction from anyone out there who is.)

[identity profile] sam-maddy.livejournal.com 2012-11-09 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It was stated by one of the writers a while back that Beth is not an UNSUB.

Thank you for passing along that Word of God.

I felt the same way about the puppies... I just got nauseous by simply watching him pet those... The kid was really creepy this week, a psychopath all the way, great acting on the young actor part, IMHO. it saves the episode for me, I hate those when we know the identity of the unsubs right from the beginning. In a way the episode looses some of the edge for me...

About the stalkerUNSUB, I hope it would be someone from their past, maybe someone they helped, some victim too traumatized by the tragedy the team was (objectively speaking) unable to prevent? ... just got a really crazy idea this instant while typing the comment, so bear with me: say it's ...Seaver? it would be easy for someone who works at the FBI to get all the information on the team - not only the older cases but the newest ones.

[identity profile] lovechilde.livejournal.com 2012-11-09 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as squick-tastic as last week, but still plenty of *ugh*.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a sign of a screwed up society, that you can show women abused, objectified, and murdered in gruesome ways on TV, but animals are completely off-limits? If CM wasn't so good at portraying a fairly realistic male/female victim ratio, I'd be a lot more annoyed by this.

[identity profile] full-metal-ox.livejournal.com 2012-11-09 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And we get the customary--on just about any other cop show--trail of dead sex workers culminating in the "respectable" Final Girl, who survives. Whatever happened to "Sex, Birth, Death", "The Last Word", and "Legacy"?

[identity profile] mycha-kk.livejournal.com 2012-11-10 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
i did notice this too, and it was another episode were they were just on time to save the girl. Sometimes you are just to late no matter how much you try.

[identity profile] mycha-kk.livejournal.com 2012-11-10 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking this too (especially after Garcia's comment which did strike me as odd that death of an animal is more horrifying than human's...), but more in line of my own reaction... and got worried a bit, cause I found myself pretty used to seeing on TV shows the human being all between harmed to murdered, yet was really squashy-feeling at the mere thought of animals being hurt. How twisted our sensitivity (my own) has become? I watch a lot of criminal/law shows, actually I've always watched only those kind (JAG, CSIs, NCISs, CM, Monk, Poirot, and some Polish ones too, I read a lot of crime novels too and some actual stories about real life murderers and serial killers, my fav Discovery Channel is Investigation Discovery) and I guess the gruesomeness kinda ...grew on me. But still if I'm not affected very much by all this evil, am I screwed? (although i do usually read some happy story after watching CM to get rid off the feeling of how much deprived the human nature can become...)

got a bit philosophical on you... sorry, but like you've written it did seem to reflect badly on modern society.
