I've been watching this other TV show, Bones. They have a psychologist on the team too. Except they can't seem to make up their minds if he's a therapist for the FBI or a profiler. I know a psychologist can be a profiler, but on CM besides Reid no one has a formal training as a psychologist. My question is how does this work at the FBI? Do their therapists also do consults on cases as profilers? Hotch saw a therapist after Mayhem who wasn't necessarily a profiler, but Rossi also mentions they wrote the questions on the eval.

Also, how long does the behavioural analysis training last in the FBI academy? And what does it entail? Is it focused on the criminal aspect or is it a bit more general?

I'm asking those of you who are studying for this, or who have done more research (and know where to look better than i do)?

edit: a bit of clarification

You know, I don't recall exactly, but I remember it being very clear first season. Unless I've conflated something from somewhere else, which is possible.

Oh, wait, I know! It's actually metaknowledge--somewhere in the pre-production docs he's described as an academic psychologist recruited by the FBI specifically because of his knowledge of criminal psych. There's also an extensive description of his office, and how it looks like a college professor's office, not an FBI agent's. It may have also come up in an episode, but I have the knowledge from background reading.

Gideon did the psych. evals for the CIA in S1. Penultimate episode, when there's a mole in the CIA.

Aha! I KNEW it was in there somewhere.

Thank you!

You're most welcome : )

..I shouldn't know stuff like this by heart, should I..

Of course you should. Without you and [livejournal.com profile] beatriceeagle we'd all be stuck rewatching endless episodes of CM.

..oh, wait.

Ha, self-busted. And that icon is still amazing X D

I keep getting accused of being "just like Reid only with seeing and hearing too" by RL CM friends regardless of what I do. Just 'cause I know stuff like what Garcia called who in what episode, or when we're told what, or which ugly tie Hotch wore first..

It is quicker to ask someone who knows though, rather than watching through all 100 episodes looking for something.

;-)

I am all synthetic, and can't remember where I picked up a particular fact: it's just there and I know it.

Although I am sure it was in the pre-production casting stuff too. I wonder if it was a chunk of the script or notes for Extreme Aggressor that I saw somewhere. That would fit the paragraph format I see in my head.

Wish I could do "the Reid thing" and have some eidetic memory. Would certainly make my exam stress less annoying..

I'd not be surprised if that was in the pre-production casting stuff as well, can't say either way though, as I've only got it from the show : )

Damned if I know--it was 2005, after all, and it could have been on an lj or in a magazine or in some kind of promo article. Alas, that I do not have Reid's memory. Heck, it could have been HERE, but I don't have time to go look.

The Douglas site is interesting. Of course, it's a self-promotion site, and blah blah grain of salt, but I imagine most of what he says about the structure of the various units should be accurate.

(More CM inaccuracies: the BSU is at Quantico--I believe the BAU operates out of the Hoover Building. Where the DC Metro DOES run. *g*)
