Hellooo~

So. Question from the new girl.

Did everyone forget about Hotch's brother? Like, the writers. Because honestly, given the past two episodes, I would've thought he would've at least come in for ten seconds to offer to help him out like everyone else has been doing.

So where is he?

(For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to episode 1x16, "The Tribe". I'm, like, 90% sure that's the episode, anyways. Wikipedia said so and they're fairly accurate about TV stuff.)

I saw that episode on A & E a few days ago, and I was just thinking about that. "Hey, whatever became of Hotch's brother, anyway?" I think the writers forgot he ever existed.

The scene I loved from that episode was when Hotch and Reid were in the school on the reservation, the teacher asked one of the students -- Brian, maybe his name was -- to answer a question "for the FBI agents," and Reid answered the question. Hotch said, "Reid, is your name Brian?" as if Hotch were a school teacher!

BEST. MOMENT. EVER.

I loved that scene! I love how Reid looks kind of embarrassed after Hotch tells him off! Awwww....

Reid always looks embarrassed. poor thing. they just don't appreciate his genius and enthusiasm to show it off like i do.

That scene was priceless! Gotta love Reid.

The writers didn't seem to care much about their own canon for Hotch as far as I could tell. *shrugs*

Mostly I'm just here to say I love your pouty Reid icon!

[identity profile] underhand-glory.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
They don't seem to care much for continuity or canon in general haha

of course, it's also possible the actor was otherwise engaged idk

[identity profile] veenecks.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, you would figure that Sean would show up for Hailey's funeral. But like [livejournal.com profile] dragontatt said, the writers can't keep up with Hotch's canon.

[identity profile] veenecks.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I hope they remember Sean too because I think Jack should be able to spend sometime with his uncle too.

Maybe the actor was unavailable. Although since he was only on once I don't think I'd know if they used a different actor.

I just want to comment how that's one of the best episodes from S1 especially when Hotch tells Reid to not participate in clas.

But yeah, I wondered about that too.

Maybe they forgot to include him? or he might be too busy being a chef -- perhaps, he is in another country right now. chefs travel a lot during their studies. I'll go for that. But I still would've liked seeing him in it. oh. tragedy.

*cough. someone should write a one shot*

[identity profile] annievh.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
in my headcanon, he's a chef in France :)
he came by to the funeral, but Hotch kicked him back to France right after because Sean needs to finish his studies there.
anyway, that's my headcanon.

Somebody on TWOP (I think somebody who does the Criminal Minds Fanatics blog and who therefore gets some behind the scenes access) said that they really tried to get the original actor for the episode but couldn't get him because he's on another show.

I totally forgot about Hotch's brother til you mentioned it! I'm thinking the writers probably forgot about him too! :-P

[identity profile] nebula99.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hotch's brother was busy hanging out with Garcia's four brothers in the Forgotten Zone of Once Mentioned Brothers.

[identity profile] reseda-3067.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. They must have forgotten about him- or he wasn´t available. Too bad, though.

[identity profile] enmuse.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if the actor wasn't available, if true care was being paid to canon/long-term timelines, somehow Sean would be mentioned. So mostly I think that over the many seasons TPTB decided he wasn't too important. (Sad! Since many fans are quite interested in the families of the characters.)

[identity profile] enmuse.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
So true.

Then again, gives us a ridiculous amount of artistic leeway for writing fic. *g* Hmm... haven't ever included brother dear in my fics as yet. Something to consider...

Did everyone forget about Hotch's brother?

I HAVEN'T. ♥__♥

I've been wanting the writers to bring him back since S1, especially after the whole 'protection plotline' came up.

I mean, it's okay if he can't appear, but can someone at least mention him?! .:headdesk:.

As far as I know, the actor who played him, Eric Johnson, was the lead on the tv show Flash Gordon between 2007 and 2008, and according to IMDb he was cast for an up-coming show called Copper.

I can't remember where I heard/read this, but I believe the actor who played Sean Hotchner couldn't be released from his current work to be in episode 5x10. It would be great if someone else could confirm this for me though, because I have no clue where I heard/read it.
