Joe Interview!

Here's Joe on JimmyKimmel, earlier this week. He's such a great storyteller!

Part one

and part two

Of course people can have their own opinions. Where did I ever say they couldn't? I prefer Rossi to Gideon myself. The thing I object to about [livejournal.com profile] wagrobanite tacking on a comment about how they're oh so happy that Gideon was replaced is that it's completely unnecessary and irrelevant to the main point of the post and reads to me like borderline bashing. If this was a post about the differences between the two characters and why they prefer one over the other containing examples like the one you gave, I honestly wouldn't have a problem.

ETA: Let me rephrase that last bit. I wouldn't have a problem provided it was intelligently written, well thought out and supported, and presented objectively and respectfully.

Or you could have read those five words as 'I am glad *he* replaced Gideon (as opposed to some other actor who might have replaced Mandy)' and enjoyed the interview.

Myself, I think Joe Mantegna is a good actor who was able to run with the greater potential for development which the character of Rossi presented, whereas Mandy Patemkin is a good actor who was aware of the far more limited potential in the character of Gideon.

But this many years/seasons on, I find it hard to get worked up about the decision of an actor to leave a show he's not enjoying working on anymore, other than to be glad that the next guy didn't ruin the dynamic. Because Mantegna made Rossi work there were further seasons of CM to enjoy.

If that's the case, then I'd still say that the wording could be better and point out that a very simple way to avoid all this trouble would have been to say something like 'I'm so glad Joe was brought aboard as part of the cast.' It's the same message without the potential bashing/wank.

The rest of your comment I completely agree with.
