Here's Joe on JimmyKimmel, earlier this week. He's such a great storyteller!

and part two

Please edit your subject line so it isn't flaming. While you are definitely entitled to your opinion, it could be deemed offensive by Gideon fans. This community is for all things CM--to include past and present characters. I do love Joe, and despised how Mandy called it quits, but that doesn't exactly have a bearing on 'Gideon'--in fact, I couldn't stand Rossi when he started, lol. Great interview. He tells good stories. Wish we could have heard more about CM, but they never have enough time on these shows.

Also Joe? Season 7.

I have massive love for Joe and Rossi, but did you really need to drag your dislike of Gideon into this? =/

The way I see it, at least something good could come out of a sad cast change.

I won't disagree with that, but it doesn't seem necessary to bring it up in the post. I'm not saying they sound overtly nasty or anything, but I don't get the thought behind posting what some people would consider to be a provocative/bashing comment to a comm where there are pretty much guaranteed to be fans of both characters. Why not keep it to how awesome they think Joe/Rossi is without bringing up Gideon?

Yeah, I guess I can look at it that way too.

This. I adore both Gideon and Rossi - I miss Gideon madly (so these kinds of digs definitely rub me up the wrong way), but appreciate and love Rossi's character...always room for both as part of the unfolding CM story.

@coffeebudda People are allowed their opinions especially on a post that they started. The same way that you state your feelings on Gideon so can others. I agree with wagrobanite; Rossi is way better that Gideon. Gideon was self absorbed and arrogant and his treatment of Reid, especially during his drug addiction, was similar to a neglectful parent ignoring a child's screams for help. I am very happy that we now have Rossi and Joe instead of Gideon and Mandy.

Of course people can have their own opinions. Where did I ever say they couldn't? I prefer Rossi to Gideon myself. The thing I object to about [livejournal.com profile] wagrobanite tacking on a comment about how they're oh so happy that Gideon was replaced is that it's completely unnecessary and irrelevant to the main point of the post and reads to me like borderline bashing. If this was a post about the differences between the two characters and why they prefer one over the other containing examples like the one you gave, I honestly wouldn't have a problem.

ETA: Let me rephrase that last bit. I wouldn't have a problem provided it was intelligently written, well thought out and supported, and presented objectively and respectfully.

Or you could have read those five words as 'I am glad *he* replaced Gideon (as opposed to some other actor who might have replaced Mandy)' and enjoyed the interview.

Myself, I think Joe Mantegna is a good actor who was able to run with the greater potential for development which the character of Rossi presented, whereas Mandy Patemkin is a good actor who was aware of the far more limited potential in the character of Gideon.

But this many years/seasons on, I find it hard to get worked up about the decision of an actor to leave a show he's not enjoying working on anymore, other than to be glad that the next guy didn't ruin the dynamic. Because Mantegna made Rossi work there were further seasons of CM to enjoy.

If that's the case, then I'd still say that the wording could be better and point out that a very simple way to avoid all this trouble would have been to say something like 'I'm so glad Joe was brought aboard as part of the cast.' It's the same message without the potential bashing/wank.

The rest of your comment I completely agree with.

Personally, I love both Rossi and Gideon equally, though Hotch and Prentiss will always remain my favorite characters.

I saw this this morning, but didn't have a chance to reply then...

I like Rossi and I like Gideon. Personally, I like Gideon a bit more (and I'll admit, his ties to Princess Bride have something to do with it...but so did his methods on the show).

However, I wouldn't say Rossi "replaced" Gideon. That would be like saying Emily replaced Elle, or Seaver replaced JJ.

All of the team members (past and present) are unique. They all have their own stories, methods, and quirks. Gideon left and I think they did a good job of sending him on his way. I was sad when it happened, but that's the way of things. Naturally, his empty spot on the team would have to be filled by someone, so it would make sense to write in someone who had "past experience" with the BAU.

Characters come and go, and one day they all will be gone once the series ends. There's been some on the show I personally couldn't stand, but I'm not going to knock them or praise their leaving...
