When will the Criminal Minds producers loosen up Hotch? — Roly
ADAM: To hear executive producer Ed Bernero tell it, they don't need to loosen him up at all. "We all believe that Hotch's stoic nature, his strength, his resolve, is one of the glues that holds the show together," Bernero says. "His unflinching portrayal of a true-believer G-man allows all the other characters to be a bit eccentric...  because there is a representation of the real FBI in Hotch." That said, Bernero promises the show's 100th episode will give fans a completely different view of Hotch.

I can't find the exact article, but I read the other day in TV GUIDE that Ed Bernero will never work with Mandy again after he failed to show for the season 3 table read.  He also said that nobody on the cast misses Mandy and that Mandy really hurt the whole team at CM.  Basically, he had nothing nice to say.  When I find the article or link, I'll post it.

By 'different view' I'm assuming he means naked & cuddled up with Reid?
*eyes shifting*

As to MP, love him as a stage performer, his Georges Seurat was the best. Doing Sondheim perfectly gives an actor major street cred. I've heard he is challenging to work with, but worth the effort. From a producer's standpoint, though, I am in total agreement with Bernero; an actor not showing up for a table read as a way to quit, well, he burnt that bridge to ash. Glad the dynamic works better backstage. The show's ability to make the apres-Gideon transition as smoothly as it reads certainly says a lot about the talent of the writers and actors.

I am glad that I got into the show right after he left because, having now obsessively watched all of the back episodes, I like the format for the team much better. Hotch is a more balanced leader (even with the Foyet attack) and everyone gets to shine. Plus, I couldn't get over what Gideon did in 'The Fisher King'.
As to Hotch, give him a break! He deserves some happiness. And cookies.

I SECOND THE MOTION. :D

I never really liked Gideon. Then again, I really started watching the show when the fourth season began, and I like the team dynamic much better sans Gideon. He seemed to overpower the show, and I don't like that. There are more characters than just him...

Also, I really like the plot line they attached to MP's leaving. Doing a job like they do for that long is bound to leave a mark, and not everyone can handle it. I feel like it added some humanity to the show. Iono. Is that just me? Although I would've liked it if they'd had Reid a bit more affected by it, considering his already present daddy!issues... :P
