another one added to the spin-off cast

From the Futon Critic
CRIMINAL MINDS (CBS) - Matt Ryan ("The Tudors") is on track to join the cast of the potential spin-off, about "a new group of profilers who work outside the FBI bureaucracy." He'll reportedly play Mick Fleming, "a Cambridge-educated British ex-Mercenary, formerly of the British Special Forces, an expert sniper and a ladies man." Forest Whitaker also stars in the hour, which Richard Shepard is directing from a script by Chris Mundy and Ed Bernero. ABC Studios, CBS Television Studios and The Mark Gordon Company are co-producing.

And here I thought I couldn't get any less excited. Yippee.

Mick Fleming, "a Cambridge-educated British ex-Mercenary, formerly of the British Special Forces, an expert sniper and a ladies man."

A ladies' man? No way...really? YAWN.

STOOOOOP. JUST STOP

[identity profile] ladymalchav.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Everything I read about this just makes my eyebrow go up one notch higher.

[identity profile] lastrega.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
He was in like 3 episodes of The Tudors before he went mad and was written out. It wasn't a major role. He was also in an ep of Torchwood.

[identity profile] ohsillytwigg.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I had to look him up, and I still don't remember him in the Tudors.

[identity profile] agardenafter.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
... a British ex-mercenary, Special Forces, expert sniper and 'ladies man,' really? Really?

[identity profile] eiko82.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
WTF? NO!! Exactly how does an ex-sniper and ex-mercenary end up profiling?!?

And I thought Prophet, the ex-gangbanger was a bad character description...

[identity profile] aratama.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm neutral to the spin-off, but I have to admit this made me laugh.

This show is COOL and EDGY and SEXY and DANGEROUS, guys. Why can't you see it? The next part cast will surely be a NINJA.

[identity profile] took-skye.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL!!! NINJA Profiler!! ...This is begging for a parody, haha!!

late reply is late

[identity profile] aratama.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh do'h. I feel like I should send a memo to the writers' room saying "I WAS JOKING, GUYS. (ALSO, NO PIRATES, OK? EVEN IF THEY'RE COOL.)"

[identity profile] admiralandrea.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
And he'll no doubt have that upper class British accent that some Americans in TV show land appear to think all British people have

And if he's British how the hell's he working for the FBI anyway??

[identity profile] ladymalchav.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Same way the lady from Mayhem was, maybe?

[identity profile] reseda-3067.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
I never watched The Tudors so I have NO clue who Matt Ryan is. I´ll have to look it up.

But why do they have to have all these spin-offs?! Yeah, money, I know, but they have to be GOOD too. Some spin-offs are good, but I can´t really see an exciting spin-off to CM. NO...

Does anyone know what it´ll be called? A name/title says it all...

... Yeah, I got nothin'

[identity profile] took-skye.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay what I don't get (okay ONE of the things I don't get) is...if this team is "outside the FBI bureaucracy" then WHY oh why was there an earlier press release about a character who was, essentially, Strauss 2.0 (female higher-up who deals with the agents and politics)??? If this team doesn't have to worry about bureaucracy than surely it doesn't need a bureaucrat on a show about it!

And *sarcasm alert* LOVE that the Brit just happens to be "a ladies man" with the last name Fleming...I smell a "Fleming, Mick Fleming" in the introduction somewhere, don't you? Maybe a nice martini and lady agent after taking out an UNSUB via sniper?

...Sorry but, haha, I was intrigued to start and now this is looking like a parody of the original. I'll probably still watch the first episode or so (I'm kind like that) but if it doesn't impress me I'm not watching.

[identity profile] djan31.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
e_e Ughhh.
Come on, to reiterate the other commenters...you're making this look like a parody, a joke. I might watch it for the lulz, though.

[identity profile] cloudzrshibby.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure watching it for the lulz is gonna be the only way I'll watch it. ._.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The original casting call specified the ethnicity of one character as African American, but a while later, there was a new casting call, exact same role, but "Caucasian or Hispanic" instead of "African American". Days later, the news about Forest Whitaker in the team leader role (which had had open ethnicity) broke...

... can't have two African American guys in the same cast, huh? ;O

[identity profile] ladymalchav.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you could, but it's probably a good idea to open up the role for another token if you can.

/scarcasm

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, on the bright side, putting the sole African American in the role of the team leader, mentor-type, instead of the ex-convict as previously intended, that's an improvement.

[identity profile] eiko82.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you never know. Maybe they merged the two together e.g the ex-convict became the team leader.

Anyways, I agree with you that having an African-American as team leader is definitely an improvement.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, they still have the ex-convict listed, so unless they want to have tow ex-cons... XD we should be safe.

But you never know how the characters change during and after the casting process. And then comes the writing... they could all turn into very cool characters, or not, regardless of the initial casting call. :3

[identity profile] justdazzled3.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
And to think I was actually excited....
