CRIMINAL MINDS (CBS) - Matt Ryan ("The Tudors") is on track to join the cast of the potential spin-off, about "a new group of profilers who work outside the FBI bureaucracy." He'll reportedly play Mick Fleming, "a Cambridge-educated British ex-Mercenary, formerly of the British Special Forces, an expert sniper and a ladies man." Forest Whitaker also stars in the hour, which Richard Shepard is directing from a script by Chris Mundy and Ed Bernero. ABC Studios, CBS Television Studios and The Mark Gordon Company are co-producing.

I'm neutral to the spin-off, but I have to admit this made me laugh.

This show is COOL and EDGY and SEXY and DANGEROUS, guys. Why can't you see it? The next part cast will surely be a NINJA.

[GINA] 28-32, all ethnicities. She's strong, intelligent. Raised in a tough neighborhood in Baltimore, she managed to avoid the streets. Got straight-A's. Was the first person in her family to ever go to college. Recruited from school to the FBI, she finished at the top of her class at Quantico but was destined to work deep cover in the same streets she'd managed to escape. Her father died before he could learn that she hadn't wasted her life. After she quit the FBI, Cooper talked her back by inviting her onto his team.

NINJA is written all over that! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. For now my face is stuck >_< as we keep inching toward the big debut.

- British actor Matt Ryan will be part of CBS' "Criminal Minds" spinoff, playing a former British special forces soldier with a degree from Cambridge. Forest Whitaker is in negotiations for the lead role.

And if they try some kind of dual citizenship (where maybe he was born here but raised there) then they could possibly get away with him working 'with' (since they are 'outside FBI bureaucracy') the FBI. But talk about REACHING! >_>

I never watched The Tudors so I have NO clue who Matt Ryan is. I´ll have to look it up.

But why do they have to have all these spin-offs?! Yeah, money, I know, but they have to be GOOD too. Some spin-offs are good, but I can´t really see an exciting spin-off to CM. NO...

Okay what I don't get (okay ONE of the things I don't get) is...if this team is "outside the FBI bureaucracy" then WHY oh why was there an earlier press release about a character who was, essentially, Strauss 2.0 (female higher-up who deals with the agents and politics)??? If this team doesn't have to worry about bureaucracy than surely it doesn't need a bureaucrat on a show about it!

And *sarcasm alert* LOVE that the Brit just happens to be "a ladies man" with the last name Fleming...I smell a "Fleming, Mick Fleming" in the introduction somewhere, don't you? Maybe a nice martini and lady agent after taking out an UNSUB via sniper?

...Sorry but, haha, I was intrigued to start and now this is looking like a parody of the original. I'll probably still watch the first episode or so (I'm kind like that) but if it doesn't impress me I'm not watching.

The original casting call specified the ethnicity of one character as African American, but a while later, there was a new casting call, exact same role, but "Caucasian or Hispanic" instead of "African American". Days later, the news about Forest Whitaker in the team leader role (which had had open ethnicity) broke...

... can't have two African American guys in the same cast, huh? ;O

But you never know how the characters change during and after the casting process. And then comes the writing... they could all turn into very cool characters, or not, regardless of the initial casting call. :3
