I think Emily was commenting less about the importance of the UNSUB's name and more on the fact they guy was a freaking moron. He spent the episode wanting to "catch the guy," not to "put a stop to his crimes," and then acted like not knowing the unsub's real name was some kind of "outsmarting" by the unsub. Fail, Fed, you earned that Emily-putdown.

Or at least that's how I saw it.

True. However, the FBI is a government office. Therefore, if Hotch let it slide and Strauss didn't notice or care, Morgan could get away with it. It's like attention/at ease in the military. Technically, you're supposed to do it. But if Gunny and Master Guns don't care, you end up not having to.
