I like the idea of Rossi being the Only 'Normal' one, or at least the one with something completely harmless - and none-angsty.
When Rossi first got on scene, and even when Emily was cut (it was actually then), that someone made the comment that Rossi doesn't do anything. Okay, he doesn't kick down doors or super sherlock or anything, but he's integral to the health of the team, his touch is more subtle. He's the only one that doesn't have the with great power, there is angst...and the team needs him as an anchor, for perspective.
I haven't seen most of the Rossi eps yet, but my favourite moment so far, was when JJ's stand in wonder if she can do the job, after the highway killer's family was discovered dead (Or after he devolved and shot more people), and Rossi sincerely reassures her that it's /okay/ if BAU isn't what she excel at after all.
