Potentially unpopular opinion, now that Brewster is gone too, I kinda wish the entire CM cast would quit CM, and then meet up again in a comedy show. I just don't know what. Bunnies anyone?

ETA: What happened:
- CBS kicked Paget out
- Fans revolt
- CBS forced Paget to come back, because of the contract...
- Now that Paget's contract is up, she will leave.

...and wow, 121 comments, I thought this was unshocking news, ouch my inbox. I wish Paget the best.

ETA:

ETA: On the subject of awesome female characters and actresses, but terrible terrible bosses...any of you Star Trek TNG fans here? Remember when Dr.Crusher all of a sudden got replaced before the collective outrage of fans and Patrick Stewart speaking on Gates McFadden's behalf got her back? The rumoured cause of her leaving was that she refused to sleep with one of the producers - a rumor given merit since Grace Lee Whitney (Janice Rand, TOS), was assaulted by two producters she didn't feel comfortable naming, before HER character was given the sudden-off. Ditto for the career of the actress in The Birds, Tippi Hedren, she signed a 7 contract with Hitchcock, who used it to keep her from working after she refused him. The BS that actresses have to put up with and all the things thrown at them is deplorable. If I stopped watching Criminal Minds after Paget leaves, it will less because of No Emily (though I will miss her so), but because of WHY she left. It's a sour taste in my mouth accented by the last weekk's episode, where Garcia thought something sexual happened between her and Morgan even though she was so drunk she couldn't remember any of it, and the writer is unaware of the unfortunate implication of.

What do you mean gone too? Did anyone else quit?

On the one hand, this makes me really sad. I adore Prentiss, and the show won't be the same without her. On the other hand, considering what CBS did to her (both this time and last time), I can completely understand her decision.

I can't blame her, after all the crap last year.

What do you mean she's gone, "too"? Did I miss something?

Yes, this. Bad enough the way they fired her. But the fact that they basically told the other networks not to give her any pilots and are not allowing her to seek pilots this time is just crap.

No!! OMG. She's the reason to watch the show, IMO. She's gone, she's back and now she's gone again?

Ugh.

Ah. See, as much as I loved Gideon and Elle, I actually think Rossi and Prentiss are more interesting characters and that the team gels better now.

Honestly, for me, I think CM is a show that could keep going for a while. Unlike some shows (cough::Supernatural::cough), it hasn't really gone downhill. Yes, losing Prentiss will be to its detriment, but the writers are still pulling it out. I think the show can still go on.

I can see where you are coming from. I just don't really agree. I love that JJ is changing and growing. I think that shows start having problems when characterization stagnates. And actually, JJ used to be my least favorite character. I like that they used CBS's idiocy to their advantage. We got to know more about Prentiss' background. JJ got to grow. Everyone got to react to losing Prentiss and then having her back again.

Mostly, while I think CBS is awful, I have faith in the writers. They haven't let me down so far, so I'm going to trust that they can make even this work.

In one sense I'm going to miss Prentiss, because she's awesome. On the other hand I haven't been too fond of the lately somewhat heavyhanded Hotch/Prentiss push.

I absolutely support her decision, though. I guess I'm just looking around at the women in Hollywood and wonder where she'll find another role as juicy as Prentiss. Female roles in Hollywood generally sucks. :-(

Really? The writers have been pretty clear that Hotch and Prentiss are friends only in canon and that no romance is going to happen. And considering that Hotch has a current romantic storyline with someone else, I'm not sure what you are talking about unless you don't want them to be friends at all.

I agree with your views on JJ. In some ways I think she's written as having suffered a bigger trauma than Prentiss? She seems a lot harder and more brittle than before her stint at the Pentagon. I liked that she was as stealth BAMF as Reid. Taking out three attacking dogs? Killing that guy in Penelope? Those were so impressive because she usually seemed soft and gentle.

LOL, I have the experience from Stargate SG-1, where their main character left after 8 seasons. Of course, in that case, the showrunners decided to turn it into Stargate 2.0, the new and improved show. End result was the same though - it wasn't ever the same show again.

Maybe I'm just overly sensitive from NCIS. And Hotch/Prentiss shippers who say that they should just get together, already.

But to clarify; I love the friendships on the show! It's one of the things I absolutely adore about CM. :-)

See, I'm a shipper, but I think it should remain firmly fanon. CM is not a shipping show. It is a case-based and team-based show. Giving us relationships between main cast members would be weird on this show. So, while i do ship, I like things the way they are with it being firmly platonic and friendshippy.

Yes, the friendships on this show are awesome. That is one of its strengths.

I agree. The exception is that I love Garcia/Kevin. But by and large? I don't really want or need romance on-screen. Mention boy- and girlfriends, by all means; I'm not opposed to romance. I just don't want to see it if it's not vital to the character.

I've never met a show where I've shipped or slashed so many pairings. Kevin/Garcia. Morgan/Garcia (platonic). Hotch/Reid. Rossi/Prentiss. And friendship everyone/everyone (although, really? I adore Hotch/Rossi).

Kevin isn't really a main character, so it doesn't bug me the way another ship would.

I only ship a few things in this fandom. I ship Morgan/Garcia, Kevin/Garcia, and any combination of Hotch/Prentiss/Rossi. Mostly I stick to gen, though. Not sure why, but for me this fandom remains about the cases and the friendships, not romance.

They fired, brought her and now she quits. I'm sure what to make of that.

I agree, I'd not be overly upset if they canned the show entirely. It's not what it used to be, and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be sad.

Sad, but true.

However, it will be interesting to see how they write her exit, because it will probably create a good Reid storyline, seeing as how he's still dealing with her death/comback.

I agree that I don't want them to try and keep a fragmented show going. But, CM has elements that no other show has and I will miss it terribly.

I was surprised at this latest development but given all that she has had to go through over the past two years, I cannot blame Paget for leaving. In fact, I fully support her decision even though I will miss Prentiss terribly. I did not know of Paget, the actress, before Criminal Minds but she has grown to be one of my top females on TV; she can do drama, action, comedy, tragedy, etc in a believable way whilst looking great.
I wish her all the success in the world.
p.s. I hope that they don't bring back Not!JJ, Rachel whatshername.

Pretty sure the series isn't ending. Its ok for her to leave if thats what she wants to do. I think the show will be fine. She'll be terribly missed :(

Aw. I liked Seaver. I thought that she could be interesting if given the chance. And she was nothing like JJ other than being blonde.
