WGA strike

You all probably know that the WGA (Writers Guild of America) is on strike. What that means is that no writing is getting done for TV shows, movies, talk shows and the like.  Writers are asking for a percent of the profits the big companies make from distributing shows & movies on the Internet. This strike isn't only affecting the writers but everyone else who works in the industry. And now CBS is is taking some rather drastic measures. This bit of news was taken from the Criminal Minds Conversation Y! Group: CBS has summoned the writers back to work by Tuesday November 20, under the threat of dismantling the sets. This doesn't only effect Criminal Minds but all CBS shows. This means that even if the writers strike ends soon (in about a month or so) we will not be seeing any new episodes of Criminal Minds this season beyond the original 12 that have been written so far.

So it is important, now more than ever to support the writers who bring us all of our favourite shows. Jill from Criminal Minds Fanatic has organised a few support campaigns. She is sending food to writers on the picket line every day, and has all of the contact info for CBS. We have to contact CBS and tell them that we are displeased with their decision. Also both the writers and the TPTB read her blog daily, so post your comments there as they will be heard.

There are many other ways in which we can support the writers. The [profile] wga_supporters community also has suggestion on how to help, contact information for networks and advertisers. I've also added the link to it in the sidebar. I've also added a link to Deadline HollywoowdDaily, a site with lots of updates on the strike and information on the picket lines. Fans4Writers are trying to coordinate cross-fandom support.  And then there's the WGA's youtube channel where you can see short videos that explain why they are striking and clips form the picket lines.
