So, I had an experience the other day that really fueled my decision to make this the topic of discussion in this week's RTM. I got a review on a CM Fanfic that stopped me in my tracks. The reader reprimanded me for not paying sufficient attention to her favorite characters, and paying too much attention to one that she hated. She told me that she had enjoyed the story, but wasn't anymore.
So, points of discusssion:
Writers:
1. If you write fanfiction, how much of a responsibility do you feel for the positive experience of your readers?
2. Does a negative review like the one I mentioned above fuel you or stop you short?
3. Does receiving a negative review impact the plot of your story?
Readers:
1. How much of a responsibility lies with the writers to make your experience a positive one? Do you think there are basic courtesies a writer should follow? If so, what are they?
2. What encourages you to leave a review or a comment? What ensures that you won't? Does the presence of an author's note impact the decision one way or another.
Viewers:
1. If you don't read or write Fanfiction, this question is for you. How much of an impact do you think viewers in general of CM have on the writers' decisions for plot and characterizations? Do you think they listen to the viewers? Why or why not? Feel free to give examples.
