Character Bashing

Does it annoy you when fans bash a character because they're not enough like one of the former cast members? I was on another Criminal Minds discussion board last night, and joined a discussion about fav/least favorite character. I was appalled by the amount of hate Prentiss gets because she's not like Elle. Prentiss wasn't created to replace Elle, she was created because Lola Glaudini decided to leave the show and another character was created in her absence. Prentiss is just as kick ass as Elle was; just in a different way. The same goes for the Rossi hate. Variety is the spice of life; if there were a revolving door of characters with the exact same traits things would get a little boring, imo.
