what, nobody wants to talk about 2x13?
Jan. 18th, 2007 07:58 amAm I alone on the internets? (Sorry if I am overstepping my bounds starting a thread, but I really want to talk about this.)
"And peas!" OMG. This might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship, I suspect: Prentiss is a giant geek after all. She was just as excited about the peas as Reid was.
And I thought Gibson and Gubler did a great job with the WTFBBQ? expressions when they entered the airstream trailer. Dr. Reid looked like he might be going to lose his lunch for a minute there. That was awesome.
Also, I suspect "I have a more interesting question. 'What does the psychopath have in the bag, Jason?'" is going to become a catchphrase around here. We all sort of collectively *howled* at that line.
How did you like the nonlinear narrative thing? Reminds me of mid-period X-files, very shiny. They seem to have no deficit of confidence and willingness to experiment, which I think is a good thing--but the last five or ten minutes, I did think felt very contrived. Were we actually meant to believe the not-an-unsub's professions at the end, or are we (and Gideon) meant to be watching a train wreck we can't stop? The dialogue wasn't as good in that bit, I thought.
Anyway. Eee!

Hehe. I loved that.

Date: Jan. 18th, 2007 01:06 pm (UTC)I agree about Carradine. He was *awesome.* Soooooooo creepy.
Also, JJ and Garcia sleeping in the office. Beautiful, both insight into their relationship and their own drives.

I was looking for an expression to explain the look on Reid and Hotch's faces in that Trailer and "WTFBBQ" definitely sums it up. Thank you^^
I agree with the last bit. It almost seemed as if they rushed the ending. We all know that the guy will never stop killing, and it won't be long until the crazy woman is dead. But they didn't really pull it off that it was believable that he could stop. I can't wait to see Carradine again though he was awesome!

Date: Jan. 18th, 2007 02:26 pm (UTC)I actually didn't like this episode. It made no sense. They just let the psychopath go? After he'd killed 100 people?
Now, the station I watch CM on went wonky for about five minutes, so if I missed something that would explain that ridiculous plot twist, PLEASE tell me!!
That said, Reid was hot!! =)

Date: Jan. 18th, 2007 03:07 pm (UTC)Hmm. You get CBS Buffalo as well? ;) And the one friggin' night CTV wasn't airing it. I'm sorry but American Idol is NOT more important than CM.
so if I missed something that would explain that ridiculous plot twist, PLEASE tell me!!
If you do get it on CBS buffalo, then you didn't miss WHY they let him go (um, and if it's a different station, just ignore me! *lol*): they didn't have a choice--it was either let him go or he doesn't tell them where the kids are and with 25,000 miles of desert to search and having absolutely NO idea where to start, how long would a bunch of elementary aged school kids last. In RL? They wouldn't do that. But also in RL? The BAU doesn't have it's own jet, either. So, willing suspension of disbelief and all that.
Besides, how could Gideon have a nemesis if he doesn't escape? ;)
Although I enjoyed watching the ep...now I'm kind of *meh* over the whole thing, although I think both MP and Keith Carradine were superb....

MorticiaPrentiss is a giant something, but I'm not quite sure what she is. But that's just my opinion...*G*And I just rewatched it this morning; she wasn't that excited over the peas...although Reid really was! He's such a cute little geek.
Overall, I liked the ep whilst I was watching it but I really feel *meh* about it now...kinda weird. But it was a good ep and now Gideon has a nemesis...!

Date: Jan. 18th, 2007 05:02 pm (UTC)I guess part of it is that I resent the writers trying to manipulate us into feeling sorry for her (oh, i hate politicians, whine, sniffle, etc) and then in the next ep trying to show us after only, what, two eps? that she's a true part of the team. It took time for Elle to be such, it should take longer for Morticia. And she's too Mary-Sueish for my liking. They'll have to do some radical rewriting (ie personality transplant) if I'm ever going to like her.
I loved Elle, and honestly, I think they proved with the few eps they had w/out Elle or Morticia, that they do not NEED another woman on the team. But again, that's just my opinion.

Date: Jan. 18th, 2007 07:22 pm (UTC)But I still do watch it, and this is a good, intense episode. Just... the new girl needs to die, my personal opinion.
And the peas thing and Reid getting all excited made me fall over. I wish there had been more "phone action" between Garcia and Morgan though.

Date: Jan. 19th, 2007 12:39 am (UTC)I also agree that Reid's reaction to Jane was unusually cold. I'd have understood if he was uncomfortable around, or upset by, her. But he was so dismissive. It jarred.
On the upside, Frank was terrifying and the narrative structure very cool. Although something tells me I missed an adorable Reid moment. What's all this about peas?! =)

Date: Jan. 19th, 2007 12:41 am (UTC)Narrative: oh, shiny. but you know me and the leaping everywhere thing. I liked moving back and forth, and i feel like i picked up most threads in time. They helped by using colour saturation and desaturation to signal a change in time, and it only took a couple of transitions before I caught that.
but...
yeah, the bit in the police station with Reid's reaction to Jane - it's like he and Emily got their names mixed up on the sides and everybody had teh dumb that day and so no one noticed. I mean, that's not the way it was supposed to go. That's *not* Reid. Could it be Emily? Possibly - I don't know enough about her yet though I'm still not really liking her yet either. But I loves Reid, and the way he behaved in the police station didn't make sense.
Unless... ROT-13 (http://www.rot13.com/index.php) for speculation that could lead to spoilers:
fbzrjurer va orgjrra rcvfbqrf Ervq unf unq ernfba gb srne uvf bja vafnavgl, naq uvf ernpgvba gb Wnar jnf uvz erwrpgvat uvf bja srnef. Ohg V'q unir gb frr gung cnl bss jvguva arkg 2 rcvfbqrf be V pnyy ynzr jevgvat.
but the ending... I think it was supposed to be some inevitable trainwreck that Jason could not stop, but that's not it exactly. I think the intent was to show that Jason failed to stop it, because he was blinded by his own surety, but it's a stupidplot because it breaks with character even more drastically than Reid's break.
Now I will back my assertion up.
there's a point in the episode where Gideon says that Frank's incapable of love, and Frank reacts to that. He laughs. Gideon picks up on the reaction, but when Morgan needles him, Frank's got enough time to cover. to go back into remorseless I'm exactly what you think I am.
And Gideon should have *caught* that. the Jason I've been watching would have made note, and brought it back, and poked at it to get the answer.
the next time we go back, Frank tells the story of the woman whose body hadn't been found in over a year. I mean COME ON. Why is that significant?
He's speaking to his own sense of isolation, his own invisibility. Remember he said to Morgan? "If I had your looks..." He has a self image of being nondescript, faceless, lonely in a crowd, insignificant.
Remember Jane's story, here. Remember what she said.
And Gideon ignores this to repeat what he's built from a profile. He doesn't see that there's a thread in there that might mean something. He too refuses to see Frank. He fails to recognize him.
"but not last night. Something changed. You took a person of prominence. someone that mattered to everyone. Why?"
Who are you and where did you put Jason? it's the sociopath's solution:
And Frank gives it right back to him! "That's an interesting question, Jason. Why?" He's all but begging him to figure it out.
But then, another distraction. Send in a man with the gun. Break the thread. What's the psychopath got in the bag, Jason?
And I'm sorry, but neither of these breaks should have been enough to utterly wipe Gideon's short-term memory. it's stupidplot.
but what makes this even worse is that Jason knows when he walks into that diner that Frank wants Jane. He knows from Jane's story that she was supposed to be one of his victims, but he let her go. He knows that Frank's migration path leads ever to Golconda. That he returns there regularly, even in the same month of the year. He had everything he needed to understand exactly what Frank wanted, and why, and he ... seems to refuse to see it.
but even if he's stuck on believing that Frank wants Jane so he can kill her, Jason should have instructed those looking for Jane to not bring her anywhere near the stand off. we has teh dumb! we has subverted characterization! GAH.
