As for Reid, I have to say I was very disappointed with the writers' in their decision to say that Reid got a pass on most of the Academy requirements. I have a feeling they were doing this in an attempt to explain why the new cadet will ~miraculously become part of the team, but to me, it diminished Reid's character and just made him even more of a Gary Stu than he already was.
I've always thought that despite Reid's shortcomings regarding marksmanship and physicality, at least he completed Academy. By definitively taking that away from him, and from us, I feel like they've minimized him.
FBI Academy is not about strength, but endurance. The fact that the FBI had bend several rules to let Reid in upsets me, because I feel it discounts his character. Given what he has gone through in the seasons that we've known him, we know he has the endurance. Why state now that he got a pass (besides as a lead-in for the new character)? I just feel like it was a disservice to him.
on top of that, Reid's shown he can be really bad ass on the field with a gun. It took some time, but I'd like to think that some of that came from his training, even if he obviously wasn't the best at it (and the rest of it obviously came from the experience, growth in confidence, etc).
It did really feel like a pre-empt excuse for NotJ to join the team.
I thought it makes sense. Reid has endurance and a lot of strength, but most of it is not physical. Most of this he's gained since we've first met him in season one. Experience is the best teacher.
Oh no, no, no. In my head he was pulling her chain just like when Rossi first joined the team and Reid conveniently "forgot" to tell Rossi about Reid's memory/IQ. At some point Spencer is going to kick her ass sparring or save her from an unsub or whatever and revel in her "WTF, YOU SAID."
I loved that they made it explicit that he had problems. That he got special dispensation? Not so much. If he weren't a field agent, that'd be one thing, but damn.
Though I disagree that it makes him more of a Gary Stu, or necessarily does so. It… kinda makes him look like a bit of an ass.
