Okay, so I was just reading a transcript of 2.03 The Perfect Storm, and the end quote was this:

Philosopher Khalil Gibran wrote, "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls. The most massive characters are seared with scars."

And it struck me as major foreshadowing. Yes, it was referring to one of the victims in the episode, but it could also refer to Reid in the upcoming episodes.

Honestly? I'd build a SHRINE to the writers if they had that in mind when they used it. That'd be deserving of the biggest characterization continuity award EVER. Any thoughts?

This show has some of the best characterization continuity of any show I watch, that's part of the reason I watch it. As for this quote, every single on of the members of this team have scars, in some form or another. This is what gives them the ability to do this job, they can put themselves into the situation and understand the pain even as they understand the one who causes it. Reid just has even more now.

I miss Elle. But yanno, doing what they did with her when Lola left the show, rather than a nice clean kill? It proved without a doubt that (a) the job breaks people and (b) everybody's at risk.

I'm much more worried for my boys and girls than I was before. And I think the means of her departure has had interesting effects on Gideon, Reid, and Hotch.

The character continuity is AWESOME. I love that you can look back to first season and see hints of what we later learn about Morgan and Reid, for example.

And we just got payoff Wednesday night for Reid lighting into Morgan on trust issues (The "every time I trust somebody they throw it back in my face" comment, unexplained at the time) back in The Popular Kids.

Because, um, his dad sperm donor? Yeah. And so on.

Well, yeah. It was obviously about each of the characters, but when it aired, I thought about Hotch first, because the close-up-shot of him stayed in the picture while that quote rolled. His is the most inconclusive background so far, really. You might say that some of their backgrounds haven't really been explored yet, but Hotch's was established in Natural Born Killer, but then partially put in question again in The Tribe. I'm hoping that we'll get to see some more on Hotch.

That was a good point, I hope they did foreshadow that to Ried. That is the kind of thing that has made me addicted to this show since day one.
