Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 06:15 am (UTC)First of all: Reid does NOT take any drugs. He's in the bathroom at one point, looking at the vials, has them in his hand (at the local cop shop, btw) and Hotch calls for him--Reid leaves. (They have a psychic link? *lol*)
He has flashbacks when he looks at the crime scene photos, which is freaking him out a bit.
At the end (Reid got the closing quote) he and Morgan are on the plane and after Morgan tells him that anything he says won't go any further (hello, The popular kids???) Reid admits that he's having problems with the crime scene photos. Morgan asks why and Reid says it's different now, he knows what the vics were thinking and feeling before and as it happened. I was thinking "empathy"; Morgan tells him it's empathy and it's a good thing. Reid says it makes him less effective and he can't do his job, doesn't know what to do. Morgan tells him to use it and let it make him a better profiler, a better person. Reid looks at Morgan and says "A better person" and we cut to credits.
Damn, I forgot to watch the preview. Of course, ctv may not have shown it.
I liked how they integrated it and didn't just move on. I really hope that Reid doesn't start taking the drugs but only time will tell.
The case was black girls getting killed; the team figures out it's not racially motivated and that the killer is a black male. There's a local reverend who's been stirring the racial waters and the mayor (white) doesn't want the state cop (black) to release the profile but he does, after the team, Morgan esp. convince him too. The state cop doesn't want everyone being afraid of a strange black male. The black cop ends up getting shot when he and Morgan are checking out a house that a suspect car stopped at; the white owner saw a black guy prowling around his house with a gun (as Hotch says "So you SHOT him?"). State cop ends up dying he's got two little kids.
They've started with the Morgan Prentiss crap. Both are apparently Vonnegut, Jr. fans and Morticia says she's a nerd (no arguement from me)...and whines to Morgan aobut her bad date that weekend. At the end, Morgan's attending the state cops funeral and Morticia comes up to him, asks if he's okay; Morgan says he is but he knows what it's like to grow up without a father. Morticia "But he died a hero" MOrgan: "So did mine, but it doesn't make a difference".
Early on, M&M interview a black girl they think sent a note to the latest dead girl. Morgan starts the interrogation but Morticia takes over. If it'd been Elle it wouldn't have bothered me, but with her it did. I'm sitting there telling myself that I'd best get used to it...which really isn't what I want to be thinking when I'm watching the show. I realise she'll have screen time like Elle did. Doesn't mean I gotta like it.
Not a lot of Garcia in this one (they didn't need her until late in the show) and she's like "I thought you'd forgotten about me." *G* Some phone flirting going on, too.
Anyhow, so far, so good on the Reid drug thing. They seem to be handling things well with it, at least for now. Hopefully, they'll keep up the goodness for next week's ep if it's dealt with there.
*sigh* I'm not surprised they had Morgan talking to Reid and with that hug, I've probably gotten the last of any Hotch/Reid for the season. *pouts*
And, of course, Hotch was very...Hotchly...tonight. As always. *g*

Date: Feb. 16th, 2007 01:13 am (UTC)Good recap of the episode and I could just say "ditto" to most everything you said! HA HA
I just can't like Prentiss though. Just can't get into her.
I really liked how they left the whole Reid/drugs thing dangling. That was pretty good.

Date: Feb. 16th, 2007 02:15 am (UTC)Yes, I did make it! I'm glad you like it. How could I not do an animated icon for that scene. *sigh*

Me either and I doubt I'll ever really like the character...oh well.
It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 07:39 am (UTC)It should have just had a black screen that explained that the events in this episode took place before Reid's horrible rotten no good very bad day, because it seriously did the revelations plot a severe disservice.

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 10:24 am (UTC)I honestly don't understand how Fear and Loathing did any disservice to Revelations.

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 03:24 pm (UTC)After the experience of Elle leaving the show and the reasons why she did in character, the utter lack of response by hotchner and Gideon is nothing short of schizoid. Hotchner isn't the kind of person to make the exact same grievously stupid error twice, And Gideon...well.
Perhaps I'm alone in my impression but I had this notion that Gideon had a particular interest in Reid and had an investment in reid's development as a profiler - and maybe he's more likely to make the exact same grievously stupid error twice, but I don't think he's enough likely to just sit there and say/do nothing about Reid.
Also, he looks far, far too well healed to have been just off the Revelations story, and the lack of aknowledgement of the injury that he suffered is simply not to the level of care and meticulous, subtle attention I'm used to seeing in the character arcs for this show. staring in a bathroom mirror a'la Lost Weekend isn't enough to cover it - it diminishes the reality of the prolonged torture that was demonstrated in Revelations - so what are they going to do next week? suddenly he's getting a cat scan and freaking out over a bit of aphasia? but none of that stuff happened last week.
I would have much rather had a seamless show that was out of continuity that aknowledged that it was out of continuity than this ham handed attempt to stitch it into a place where it didn't belong that's going to carry the echoes of its sloppiness across the next episodes.

Date: Feb. 17th, 2007 01:23 am (UTC)Gideon's had his own shit going on. and the tragedy of it there is that people aren't noticing.
that, or they don't know quite what to do about it.

OMG VONNEGUT I'M IN LOVE WITH THEM BOTH. ♥
And that is all I have to say this early in the morning on the subject. x3333

my roommate said, "I haven't read vonnegut,"
and I said, "oh grab his book. grab any of his books. they're good. how can you be an SF fan and not have read Vonnegut?"

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 11:16 pm (UTC)I was trying to explain to my mum who Kilgore Trout was and stuff and she was just giving me a blank look.
xDDD
If I was on a date with someone, and they mentioned anything to do with Vonnegut, I think I would propose right then and there. XD
Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 12:35 am (UTC)I loved loved Prentiss in that scene. first she was being all defensive and confessional and then Morgan flips the geek! switch and she's rolling on her segway like THAT.
Re: Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 12:41 am (UTC)I know! :D
I didn't really like her that much before, but she's actually getting a personality now. XD
Re: Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 12:48 am (UTC)I mean, she basically gets put on the team because of hot hot hot political connections, and she had this sort of flat affect for a bit, but over the last few eps she's starting to get a little more loose and comfortable and now I'm wondering about her entrance onto the show.
because yeah, it got my back up and I was still all raw and shivering about Elle.
but now I wonder - exactly how much did she pay to get on that team?
and I hope we find out.
Re: Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 12:56 am (UTC)When she was first introduced, I was really curious about her. Over a couple weeks I sort of just started going "meh...". But yeah, I'm starting to wonder about her again.
And I really want to know how much she paid!
Yay for banjo!Hitler. :D
Re: Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 01:04 am (UTC)But I like her. She's a geek of the first water. Her reaction to getting bonked on the head by Reid's alka seltzer rocket was all it took to sell me. And then-- "It's also in peas!" "REALLY?"
Yeah, she can stay.

Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 04:07 am (UTC)Re: Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 04:10 am (UTC)I mean, hey, that's interesting.
Also, I like that she and Reid seem to be establishing a kind of geek-to-geek friendship, and there's now obviously some common ground with Morgan.
And she will get up in Hotch's face when she thinks he needs it. Or, ah, sometimes kind of by accident.
Poor Hotch.
Re: Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 04:16 am (UTC)And anyone who will take on Hotch and be nerdy with Reid is okay in my book. Even if she can be a bit defensive.
Re: Though it's apparent she's too white and nerdy
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 04:53 am (UTC)Actually she didn't pay her way onto the team. She got placed on the team because of her parents' political connections. And of course she'd deny it. She's NOT going to walk into her new boss' office and say, "Hey, man, my mom got me this job." I say it was a favour to her parents cus that file Hotch didn't have finally, mysteriously, shows up when they come back from the case? Yep.
I don't like her because she didn't earn her spot on the team, she has had, until recently, no personality (and the one she's getting isn't any better than the absence of), she's a stone cold bitch (ref. Revelations)...and she annoys me. I doubt very much that I'll ever warm to her.

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 09:20 pm (UTC)Pity Reid missed that conversation.
Somebody on that show is a bigtime science fiction geek. And it does my heart good.

Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 01:03 am (UTC)-love- :D I must read it now.
I wish I was more of a SF geek. Since I really got into SF though, I've had less and less time to read, so I haven't read some of big SF stuff.
Five more months, and I graduate. XD Then I can do all the reading I want! ^_____^

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 05:21 pm (UTC)Also, When Morgan said "Use it" to me it reminded me of all those episodes where the unsub thinks he's being given permission to do something. The way Reid reacted to me personally was like "Morgan just said it was ok..." referring of course to the drugs. I dunno. Could be innnnteresting. *grin grin grin*

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 05:31 pm (UTC)I think it's not that implausible for JJ not to be as affected. She had some crazy dogs attack her but she shot them and wasn't physically hurt. She might be nervous around dogs as a result, but I don't think she would have as heavy a post-traumatic reaction as Reid.
But yes, one thing I thought was missing was maybe either Hotchner or Gideon asking Reid if he was sure he was okay, that he could take some more time off if he needed, etc.
I should have seen it coming but I was so upset when the cop was shot, that was really sad, especially after they showed a reference to his family. At first I thought maybe they were showing them because he had a daughter who would become a victim.

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 09:23 pm (UTC)This ep didn't have any JJ POV, so--we don't know what she was feeling.
Okay, and the bit where Morgan appropriates Reid's profile of the note writer that the team all argued with and then says, glibly, "It's pretty straightforward profiling" cracks me up. That was AWESOME.

Date: Feb. 14th, 2007 11:19 pm (UTC)It really was! I couldn't stop laughing. XDDDD
no subject
Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 02:34 am (UTC)And what's also nice is that Reid is actually already doing what Morgan told him to so--using the trauma, because right at the top of the hour, he's flashing back hard, triggered by Prentiss' question of why the unsub drugged his victims... and then he uses the information from his own torture to answer Prentiss' question.

Date: Feb. 15th, 2007 04:10 am (UTC)Also, I'm now pretty sure he's going to take the drugs at least once. But I'm equally sure that someone's going to notice.
