FWIW, no you didn't miss the preview. That's the one thing I HATE about CTV, that they don't show previews all the time. I'll have to check for it tonight on CBS.

I absolutely LOVE your animated Reid/Hotch icon! Did you make it?

Good recap of the episode and I could just say "ditto" to most everything you said! HA HA

I just can't like Prentiss though. Just can't get into her.

I really liked how they left the whole Reid/drugs thing dangling. That was pretty good.

I think they should not have bothered tacking on all that stuff, it came off contrived and artificial.

It should have just had a black screen that explained that the events in this episode took place before Reid's horrible rotten no good very bad day, because it seriously did the revelations plot a severe disservice.

well, perhaps I'm too sensitive to the fact that there is more than one character on the show, but I didn't happen to notice anything that indicated JJ's level of emotional damage after her experience, and there was only 3.7 seconds of Garcia but she seemed awfully chipper for someone who watched reid be tortured on her own personal panopticon chamber.

After the experience of Elle leaving the show and the reasons why she did in character, the utter lack of response by hotchner and Gideon is nothing short of schizoid. Hotchner isn't the kind of person to make the exact same grievously stupid error twice, And Gideon...well.

Perhaps I'm alone in my impression but I had this notion that Gideon had a particular interest in Reid and had an investment in reid's development as a profiler - and maybe he's more likely to make the exact same grievously stupid error twice, but I don't think he's enough likely to just sit there and say/do nothing about Reid.

Also, he looks far, far too well healed to have been just off the Revelations story, and the lack of aknowledgement of the injury that he suffered is simply not to the level of care and meticulous, subtle attention I'm used to seeing in the character arcs for this show. staring in a bathroom mirror a'la Lost Weekend isn't enough to cover it - it diminishes the reality of the prolonged torture that was demonstrated in Revelations - so what are they going to do next week? suddenly he's getting a cat scan and freaking out over a bit of aphasia? but none of that stuff happened last week.

I would have much rather had a seamless show that was out of continuity that aknowledged that it was out of continuity than this ham handed attempt to stitch it into a place where it didn't belong that's going to carry the echoes of its sloppiness across the next episodes.

Same here. And Gideon doesn't seem to be good at personal human relationships at all. I mean Reid could have died and now Gideon is acting like nothing happened. This team is more of a strictly work team than some other law-enforcement teams on other TV shows (like NCIS, Without a Trace, where they are more close-knit).

Gideon...

Gideon's had his own shit going on. and the tragedy of it there is that people aren't noticing.

that, or they don't know quite what to do about it.

If it was God that did that, I'm becoming religious! XDDD

OMG VONNEGUT I'M IN LOVE WITH THEM BOTH. ♥
And that is all I have to say this early in the morning on the subject. x3333

my commercial talk was

"but everybody reads vonnegut!"

my roommate said, "I haven't read vonnegut,"

and I said, "oh grab his book. grab any of his books. they're good. how can you be an SF fan and not have read Vonnegut?"

You sound exactly like me. XDDD
I was trying to explain to my mum who Kilgore Trout was and stuff and she was just giving me a blank look.

xDDD
If I was on a date with someone, and they mentioned anything to do with Vonnegut, I think I would propose right then and there. XD

ha! that's so good.

I loved loved Prentiss in that scene. first she was being all defensive and confessional and then Morgan flips the geek! switch and she's rolling on her segway like THAT.

I know! :D
I didn't really like her that much before, but she's actually getting a personality now. XD

I was wary of the new girl, myself.

I mean, she basically gets put on the team because of hot hot hot political connections, and she had this sort of flat affect for a bit, but over the last few eps she's starting to get a little more loose and comfortable and now I'm wondering about her entrance onto the show.

because yeah, it got my back up and I was still all raw and shivering about Elle.

but now I wonder - exactly how much did she pay to get on that team?

and I hope we find out.

I was never really fond of Elle, so I wasn't really upset when she left the show. ^^;;;

When she was first introduced, I was really curious about her. Over a couple weeks I sort of just started going "meh...". But yeah, I'm starting to wonder about her again.
And I really want to know how much she paid!

Yay for banjo!Hitler. :D

I think there's an interesting story there. And I dunno if it *was* political connections.

But I like her. She's a geek of the first water. Her reaction to getting bonked on the head by Reid's alka seltzer rocket was all it took to sell me. And then-- "It's also in peas!" "REALLY?"

Yeah, she can stay.

I know! I don't have mad love for Prentiss or anything, but I've never quite gotten all this hate for her. She's good-natured and a little nerdy. And I think that it was supposed to be pretty evident that she didn't pay her way onto the team. So what's wrong with her?

And she's got as much deep-seated mysterious damage as the rest of the team.

I mean, hey, that's interesting.

Also, I like that she and Reid seem to be establishing a kind of geek-to-geek friendship, and there's now obviously some common ground with Morgan.

And she will get up in Hotch's face when she thinks he needs it. Or, ah, sometimes kind of by accident.

Poor Hotch.

I know! That's all I could think during the scene at the funeral with her and Morgan. I really should have been focused on Morgan, but all I could think of was, "What does this remind you of, Prentiss? What are you thinking here?"

And anyone who will take on Hotch and be nerdy with Reid is okay in my book. Even if she can be a bit defensive.

Oh, I am such a huge SF geek. And they have quoted Cory Doctorow, and the Empty Planet ep is *so* a riff on DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP?, and the running star trek gag...

I love this show. *g*

I knew Empty Planet must have been based off something. XD I had no idea what though.
-love- :D I must read it now.
I wish I was more of a SF geek. Since I really got into SF though, I've had less and less time to read, so I haven't read some of big SF stuff.
Five more months, and I graduate. XD Then I can do all the reading I want! ^_____^

Hee. Well, I'm guessing that's the book they're riffing on. Movie version was Bladerunner.

It's a show by geeks about geeks and for geeks, and that is hard not to love.

oh the drug story SOOOO isn't over. Heroin is the HARDEST drug to kick. And Herroin substitute mixed with a hallucinagin and added with a bit of torture... oh its so not over with yet.

Also, When Morgan said "Use it" to me it reminded me of all those episodes where the unsub thinks he's being given permission to do something. The way Reid reacted to me personally was like "Morgan just said it was ok..." referring of course to the drugs. I dunno. Could be innnnteresting. *grin grin grin*

I liked the way they did the episode. The flashbacks were good and made sense.

I think it's not that implausible for JJ not to be as affected. She had some crazy dogs attack her but she shot them and wasn't physically hurt. She might be nervous around dogs as a result, but I don't think she would have as heavy a post-traumatic reaction as Reid.

But yes, one thing I thought was missing was maybe either Hotchner or Gideon asking Reid if he was sure he was okay, that he could take some more time off if he needed, etc.

I should have seen it coming but I was so upset when the cop was shot, that was really sad, especially after they showed a reference to his family. At first I thought maybe they were showing them because he had a daughter who would become a victim.

Gideon had a nice little *look* at Reid, at one point, while Reid was flashing back. Don't know if that was fortuitous or part of teh re-shoot, but since they put it in *right* after one of Reid's triggers, I think it was intentional in editing, at least.

This ep didn't have any JJ POV, so--we don't know what she was feeling.

Okay, and the bit where Morgan appropriates Reid's profile of the note writer that the team all argued with and then says, glibly, "It's pretty straightforward profiling" cracks me up. That was AWESOME.

The circular use of the word "empathy" at the top and the bottom of the episode is nice.

And what's also nice is that Reid is actually already doing what Morgan told him to so--using the trauma, because right at the top of the hour, he's flashing back hard, triggered by Prentiss' question of why the unsub drugged his victims... and then he uses the information from his own torture to answer Prentiss' question.

Did anyone else spend the entire episode wanting to hug Reid? I did, even more than last episode. And Morgan, and Prentiss! So much emotional pay-off in this episode.

Also, I'm now pretty sure he's going to take the drugs at least once. But I'm equally sure that someone's going to notice.
