Thomas tweet
Thomas Gibson tweet, May 25 2011

...Well there it is. It's not a confirmation, but at least we know he's still in negotiations and let's hope Aaron Hotchner will return next season.

That's hopeful news.

If he doesn't return in the next season, the show is over for me, just sayin.

I honestly don't read any hopefullness:( Still no contract and still working on it? I want him to have a signed contract!

That is hopeful. But at the same time, isn't it kind of late to still be in negotiations? That might be bad news, it might mean that they are refusing to give him what he wants and he's refusing to lower what he's asking for.

Not really positive, considering that he and Shemar started negotiating at the same time. TG has said all along he wants to stay with the show, so this really isn't much in the way of news.

And if TG goes, I will not be watching CM anymore, sad to say. Hotch is the heart of the team and the show.

It is hopeful. As long as they're still negotiating, there's hope. It's when talks break down that there's reason to panic.

Shemar's doesn't have the past hit shows Thomas has and isn't as big a name, so it's not surprising that his negotiations went more smoothly and quickly. It's not like they're using the same lawyers or doing the same deal, either. I don't know what the differences are, but most likely it's salary that's the issue. I suppose some people want him back at any price; otherwise, if talks break down, whose "fault" it is will depend on who appears to have been more reasonable in their approach, which we may never know.

I definitely think he meant the tweet to be reassuring, and I'm somewhere between amused and baffled as to why it seems to be having the opposite effect. It's not like he can comment more directly anyway; to me, this is him winking and saying, "It should work itself out in the long run."

OT, but that's a nice icon you've got there. ;)

Oh, is that one of yours? *chortle* (I have it credited to [livejournal.com profile] breakthesky89, but IIRC, that's you.) Thanks! I'd dropped my CM icons and didn't want to root through my pictures folder looking for them -- two hard drive changes in the space of a year left me with many tiers of them to look through -- so I picked up some spiffy new ones like this one.

It is a positive thing. He sounds positive and hopeful for his return. He hasn't set us up for the fact that he might not coming back or said something a long the lines of I can't really talk about. That is when we start to panic but this, no, he sounds happy and up beat so things must be going ok.

I know it is taking a long time but this isn't unusual at all. There have been some instances where some actors haven't signed till July. There was an actor in CSI Vegas who didn't sign until the week before they started filming. The west wing one season had to be delayed because half the cast hadn't signed. Mark Harmon didn't sign until very late either so nope, this isn't bad or unusual at all. It depends on what you are going for in a contract, whether it is more money or more power in the show.

I know him and Shemar went into negotiations at the same time but they aren't even on the same level. No offense to Shemar but he has not got the same amount of power as Thomas or the back catalogue that Thomas has either. Thomas is an established actor who has had 3 hit shows under his belt as well. He is a good actor and very well liked and has a lot of support from both the fans and the TV critics as well. Every time this has been brought up in the press it has been quite clear that without TG, there is no point in doing the show. The other thing he had going for him is the disaster that was the spin off, they pissed of the fans because of last year and they have had to pay for it, they won't want to do it again this time round because of the reaction last time round.

I know after last year that everyone is nearly having a nervous breakdown over this but it is not unusual for it to take a lot of time to sort a contract out. He doesn't sound negative or upset or downbeat about how things are going. If he didn't think he was coming back he wouldn't of gone to that TV promotion thing with Joe, AJ, Kristen and Erica earlier in the week because there would have been no point in bothering to promote it if he wasn't going to be there. We need to calm down and just see what happens. If it is bad, he wouldn't be talking about it like AJ & Paget didn't really talk after what happened. So chill out!

And have you considered that he really doesn't have much choice BUT to sound upbeat and positive? If negotiations are ongoing, he's hardly going to slag off his employer, now is he, or whine about how long it's taking. He can't. And for those who don't think this isn't as seriuos as last year? Don't kid yourselves.

I'm sorry but this is NOT positive. It's not inherently negative, either. I'd call it neutral.

Positive will be when he has a signed contract. Not before.

If it was negative, he wouldn't be tweeting. AJ & Paget didn't tweet about their negotiations after what happened at all. If it was bad, he would say he couldn't talk about it because of legal reasons. And yes, he wouldn't be slagging them of but he wouldn't be tweeting about it either. If it was going bad then he wouldn't mention it, he probably has a lot of tweets about it, just like AJ did and Paget did but they said nothing so he wouldn't either.

But he doesn't sound negative or upset about it either. He put it out there to say that things are still going on and he is hopeful of his return, it's supposed to give us some hope and make us calm down about things. But at the moment, every single tweet or talk or spoiler, etc, sends people into hysterics. But at the rate people are going, you are just convincing yourself that this is it and he isn't coming back. So if you want to see it as not positive or neutral, then that is fine.

I agree. I just think it's neutral. I am sure he's getting a lot of questions from fans and doesn't want to seem like a jerk and just ignore them.

Believe me, he'd be more a jerk to lead people on. I'm sure he knows that if things aren't going well, he should be quiet. As strange as it may seem these days, sometimes the best way to handle publicity is not to engage in it.

Hmm...I guess. Maybe he didn't think people would take it as a 'almost there' type of thing. I don't know. I won't pretend to understand the dynamics of celebrity/press/twittering. Haha.

Agreed with [livejournal.com profile] emzbuckley: if things were going badly, he wouldn't tweet about it.

He knows more about what's going on than we do; if he says he's hopeful, he has reason to be, and it would destroy his credibility with the fans if it weren't true.

I will be supremely pissed if they bring JJ back only to get rid of Hotch. FOR FREAKING REAL. Ditch the damn JJ wannabe and keep the original cast. GRR, CBS, grr.

PS--for JJ wannabe, I mean Seaver. Just in case there was confusion.

CBS is run by idiots.

if they hadn't bothered to create CMSB and just kept the original cast, they wouldn't have a pissed off fanbase and wouldn't be out so much money. if they drop thomas, CBS could just as well pull the plug on the show. even though i'm a reid fan, and hotchner does little for me, i agree that without him, the show would have no heart.

they need to stop messing around with what already works.
