Date: May. 26th, 2011 08:40 pm (UTC)Shemar's doesn't have the past hit shows Thomas has and isn't as big a name, so it's not surprising that his negotiations went more smoothly and quickly. It's not like they're using the same lawyers or doing the same deal, either. I don't know what the differences are, but most likely it's salary that's the issue. I suppose some people want him back at any price; otherwise, if talks break down, whose "fault" it is will depend on who appears to have been more reasonable in their approach, which we may never know.

Date: May. 26th, 2011 09:13 pm (UTC)I know it is taking a long time but this isn't unusual at all. There have been some instances where some actors haven't signed till July. There was an actor in CSI Vegas who didn't sign until the week before they started filming. The west wing one season had to be delayed because half the cast hadn't signed. Mark Harmon didn't sign until very late either so nope, this isn't bad or unusual at all. It depends on what you are going for in a contract, whether it is more money or more power in the show.
I know him and Shemar went into negotiations at the same time but they aren't even on the same level. No offense to Shemar but he has not got the same amount of power as Thomas or the back catalogue that Thomas has either. Thomas is an established actor who has had 3 hit shows under his belt as well. He is a good actor and very well liked and has a lot of support from both the fans and the TV critics as well. Every time this has been brought up in the press it has been quite clear that without TG, there is no point in doing the show. The other thing he had going for him is the disaster that was the spin off, they pissed of the fans because of last year and they have had to pay for it, they won't want to do it again this time round because of the reaction last time round.
I know after last year that everyone is nearly having a nervous breakdown over this but it is not unusual for it to take a lot of time to sort a contract out. He doesn't sound negative or upset or downbeat about how things are going. If he didn't think he was coming back he wouldn't of gone to that TV promotion thing with Joe, AJ, Kristen and Erica earlier in the week because there would have been no point in bothering to promote it if he wasn't going to be there. We need to calm down and just see what happens. If it is bad, he wouldn't be talking about it like AJ & Paget didn't really talk after what happened. So chill out!

Date: May. 26th, 2011 09:24 pm (UTC)I'm sorry but this is NOT positive. It's not inherently negative, either. I'd call it neutral.
Positive will be when he has a signed contract. Not before.

Date: May. 26th, 2011 09:42 pm (UTC)But he doesn't sound negative or upset about it either. He put it out there to say that things are still going on and he is hopeful of his return, it's supposed to give us some hope and make us calm down about things. But at the moment, every single tweet or talk or spoiler, etc, sends people into hysterics. But at the rate people are going, you are just convincing yourself that this is it and he isn't coming back. So if you want to see it as not positive or neutral, then that is fine.

Date: May. 27th, 2011 02:08 am (UTC)He knows more about what's going on than we do; if he says he's hopeful, he has reason to be, and it would destroy his credibility with the fans if it weren't true.

Date: May. 27th, 2011 06:17 pm (UTC)if they hadn't bothered to create CMSB and just kept the original cast, they wouldn't have a pissed off fanbase and wouldn't be out so much money. if they drop thomas, CBS could just as well pull the plug on the show. even though i'm a reid fan, and hotchner does little for me, i agree that without him, the show would have no heart.
they need to stop messing around with what already works.
