Title: An Ending and a Beginning
Author: Ishara
Category: Angst & Mush.
Characters: Reid and Seaver
Pairing: Reid / Seaver
Rating: General
Wordcount: 453
Summary: Ashley comes to a realization.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. I only wish that I did.
Author’s Note: I saw an article saying that they're writing Ashley Seaver out as a team member due to the return of JJ and Prentiss. I'm hoping this is how they handle it. Because I like to have my cake and eat it too. Concrit is love.
It was after eleven when Ashley let herself into her apartment, and though she was exhausted, she prowled her apartment restlessly. She'd been having a hard time getting to sleep lately, ever since she joined the BAU. Sighing, she flicked on the television to keep her company, and continued to pace restlessly, haunted by the case they'd just closed. The son of a serial killer had become a serial killer himself. It was a little too close for comfort, to say the least. She knew if she did manage to get to sleep, she'd only have nightmares.
"Police in North Dakota have uncovered the bodies of seven women, in Hartland, just twenty miles east of the hunting-grounds of the Redmond Ripper, Charles Beauchamp, who is known to have slaughtered twenty-five women over a period of ten years..." The newsreader's words froze Ashley in her tracks, and she stared at the screen in utter horror. It was the final nail in the coffin. Switching off the TV, she grabbed her coat and headed out into the night. Half an hour later, she found herself standing outside Reid's door, delicate strains of piano music ceasing when she raised her hand and knocked.
"I'm asking for a transfer out of the B.A.U," The words tumbled off her tongue as soon as he opened the door.
Standing in his pyjamas and robe, he looked like a lost little boy, stunned and confused. He stood back and waved her inside, "What? Ashley, why?"
"Because I can't do this any more, Spence," She said simply, brushing against him as she walked inside, "They just found what may be more of my father's victims, and I can't go back there. I just can't. And even if they hadn't, I haven't been able to sleep properly in months. I just think I'd be better off in another unit. One that doesn't hit me where I live. The C.A.R.D. unit, maybe. Besides," She added as he digested her outpouring of fact and emotion, "With JJ and Emily both back, the team doesn't need me any more."
"But I need you," Spencer said quietly, looking so sad that it would've broken her heart, if his admission hadn't already turned her to mush.
"That's just another reason why it's better this way..." Eyes shining, Ashley reached up, cupping his cheek, and finally doing what she'd been wanting to do for months, leaning in and tenderly pressing a kiss to his mouth. She sighed softly as Spencer responded by drawing her closer, deepening the kiss as tentative exploration gave way to passion.
"I need you, too," She told him breathlessly when they finally came up for air, "And this way, we can actually be together."
