Source Didn't like the fighting between Dharma and Greg (Because seriously, WTF was that about? I'm just going to pretend they can't find a house and were having an off day), but it was still awesome!
I was excited when Jenna showed up, because it sounded like she was Dharma, but when Thomas showed up, I gasped. That was awesome. Despite the fighting, of course.
I don't find the whole love/hate or bickering love trope to be remotely appealing. I know real life couples who argue like that, and they are miserable, not happy. I never watched Dharma and Greg because the whole opposites attract thing doesn't work very well in real life. You need to have some things in common or at least be able to compromise well and see the other's viewpoint as equally valid to yours. So actually, I think this clip is legitimately what a real life Dharma and Greg would be like.
I thought it was cliche, but it could potentially work out really well provided no hardship come their way, or maybe even then, considering their wedding promises.
See, a girl like Dharma would work for Greg much more than a woman who was like him, because dude, Greg is very very Alpha. Dharma is strong in a way that doesn't compete with him the way a Career Woman would, and she's secure with her own life, the way a Jack Kennedy type might not be.
They are kinda like the genderflip version of Hong Kong's Just Love (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Love) (老婆大人), which pairs up the unblinking lady who is a Judge with her home-keeping husband who is very adorkable. We never get the feeling, except from one of his jerkass friends, that he's anything less for being the more...granola homesy of the two.
Not saying stereotypical Alpha x Alpha couldn't work, just pointing out all the pros and cons. Plus, on Dharma's side, sometimes on the hipster/hippy/whatever-progs-call-themselves-now scene, there is a competition to out-vegetarian the other or something, she doesn't have to worry about that with Greg.
Could I at least tempt you into watching the Dharma and Greg clip in which Gibson becomes shirtless?
3x01 - One Flew Over the Lawyer's Desk Dharma: When I was a little girl I'd lay on my bed every night with my journal of the American Bar Association cutting out pictures of hunky lawyers like you. Greg: Don't be embarrassed, all little girls do that (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvOMJkLo5VI&feature=related)
...and beard!Gibson with Elfman in short shorts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i18s3OKYJzI&feature=related) Sadly he ignores her in that scene and I don't remember how the rest of it goes, but (To quote aoibhe: Is there anyone surprised I found Hotch "I'm living in a yurt drinking yak's milk and butter tea and frockling with camels, and oops, forgot my shaving kit" HOT AS FUCK? I don't know, but I think it may have something to do with the image of beard burn on thighs. (http://aoibhe.livejournal.com/332820.html)
Oh, I think that some types of opposites can work well together. But the whole bickering love thing is not my cup of tea at all. You can be different and still not argue all the time. I mean, I get that it can work for some people. I just don't enjoy watching/reading/etc. about those types of relationships at all (apart from a few exceptions like Han/Leia and Benedict/Beatrice)
They had some fights, but they actually don't remotely argue all the time, and that's actually what I LOVE about Dharma and Greg - contrast to the usual ugly stupid jerkass guy and hot smart bitter wife, both these people are adorkable and absolutely in love with each other, what a novelty!
They make sacrifices for each other all the time. Like, in "Your Place or Mine", Dharma found out that after almost three years, Greg has a storage room where he kept all his bachelor stuff. She yelled at him at first "in case it didn't work out?", but then, she tracked him down to apologize, and switched her stuff into the storage and his stuff into her place. This goes on while it's reveal that Greg's mom decorate everything in their house, even Greg's dad's room, and that Jane got rid of all of Pete's stuff when they got married.
Greg's stuff is really bad feng shui, it's very modernist...and as Dharma is visibly affected by living in an environment she really didn't like, Greg switched everything back!
Then Jane and Dharma was having a convo later on, and Dharma said they finally goodwilled all of Greg's old stuff, and Jane said, good, because if you let guys keep their old stuff, they get a false sense of self worth.
...and the episode ends with Greg telling David how great Dharma is, she made him get his old stuff back from goodwill and back to His Own Storage.
Plus, while Greg has moved into Dharma's life, when Greg had a chance to be in politics, flowerchild Dharma actually went to her ice queen mother-in-law for lessons on how to be a good politician's wife.
They are really awesomely lovey dovey. Srsly, the premise is silly, but the actor and actress really have A LOT of chemistry, I would be there at the movie theatre no matter how germy and overpriced everything is if they were to make a Rom Com starring these two and not the stupid jokes we have now. Dharma and Greg in Washington maybe...
I really wish we get more shows like this, they are way healthier examples of marriage then the usually jerkass husband and cold bitch wife (I HATE Everybody Loves Raymond, in Two and A Half Man, at least Charlie gets his comeupperance, and oh, attractiveness equality!)
Look at these two!:
That's the very first scene in the Halloween special: Dharma and Greg S02E06 - A Closet Full of Hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww2nvBL8uRE)
Greg was stripping for Dharma, trips up, ask her to demonstrate for him again, and adorkable smiles they exchanged were SO CUTE.
...and oh, in that episode, they discover a secret room behind their closet, full of dolls, when they heard noise, Greg declares that he was a cop who was kicked out of the force for not playing by the rules lol.
Squee! Thanks so much for posting this. Although it did make me a little sad. I guess the Dharma and Greg sensibility didn't really fit in with this show so they had to make them bicker, but it was cool to see them anyway. I'm also just going to pretend they were having an off day.
Haha, I was psyched to see Dharma & Greg show up ^_^ Even with the fighting, which I didn't find that bad (supposing they had X number of years married and X hours of house-hunting as of that day)...honestly, it was kinda funny as there didn't seem to be much malice in it...well, at least on Greg's end, haha!
Don't worry, they are just play fighting as a prequel to smoking hot and kinky make-up sex. Notice how he avoided looking at her until near the end when he followed her out. These two cannot keep their hands off each other very well. See 1:30 of dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faVJfFfck6Y) lol.
I just leave these here:
