Me too, though I wish we got more lighter moments* out of him, and the cast. The most we saw of him was a set up to twist a knife in his guts, how happy he was cooking for Sarah and dancing with her in his safe space cabin - right before the head in a box arrive. His cozy apartment with pictures of birds and toy trains - that ended up spattered in blood after a sexual sadist went Jack the Ripper on his sorta GF in his bed. Then there were only small bits like him being the quaint sort of guy who likes old silent comedies - Charlie Chaplin was totally before his time. I can totally see him being more like Reid back when he was younger, especially considering baseball, which is supposingly The Sport of The Nerds because of the scores or something (some DS9 Trekkies was all about baseball, hmmmmmnnn). I wonder if Reid was into it? I know Reid coached basketball back when he was in school lol!
Especially dancing, dude is LIMBER:
*lighter moments: To me, the show is not just about Criminal Minds, but on the bigger part, the human question, what makes us, us? Back in 108, "Natural Born Killer", Hotch told Vincent that he was a product of his environment, but that, "some grow up to be killers", and "some grow up to catch them."
I really think that CM needed a LOT more lighter moments for the cast members to show WHY they are different, they have enough stressors to push them towards a career where they will be facing killers and rapists as a day job - but they are there to stop them? What's the difference? To me, Jason's old friend and his cozy apartment is an important contrast to Frank. Frank couldn't love, he wants to, but he couldn't, Frank founds no joy in his life other than killing people. Frank is a marauder, he doesn't need to or couldn't set down roots. Jason on the other hand, need to have a home.
Reid's mother was crazy, but she obviously loved him, and did her best to nurture him and raise him smart when she was in her head, that's why with all his vulnerabilities, Reid is still functional, at the very least, he had a loving parent, one who moved to protect him in the case of Gary Michaels. Tobias on the other hand, his crazy father blamed him for everyting....
Oh gods, I just remember reading something recently in which they say that Gideon's scene in the diner mirrored Frank's. What if he was driving back along where Frank used to drive, trying to understand?
Mmhmm! I totally picture him being like Reid when he was younger. I always thought that's why he kind of took Reid under his wing. Though I can't help but think Gideon was more adept with the ladies then Reid is. LOL
I think that's my favorite episode for Gideon (the one the .gif is from). I just block out the horrible things that happen in it (yay for my own fantasyland). I too wish there were more light Gideon moments. I wish Mandy were still on the show now simply for the fact I think we see lighter moments these seasons then we did when the show started. But I am torn because I don't like the stories that much these days though. Hmm.
And the man is ridiculously limber. *nods* I am not even 1/2 as limber as him and I am 27. Haha!
Srsly? The guy who had ONE marriage and one divorce, and he probably haven't dated since, or recently, other than Sarah, and we saw the way he was indecisive over mums or roses, choosing mums when somebody suggest that roses would get him laid, and d'awwww, he was so Mr.Rogers sweet when when he told the florist to make it look /happy/. Gideon is an adorable romantic, the way that Reid is just plain adorable, but that doesn't work on every woman...or rather, when it does, it flies over their head that it's working because they haven't thought that far...
I think the initial plans for Gideon's character includes him being in regular contact with his ex-wife the psychiatrist, it sounded like his wife was driving, is what imma saying. Gideon and his first wife would probably be a little like Reid/Prentiss (I have srs difficulties seeing Reid making the moves on Prentiss, Emily would be the one to do it).
Like dude, remember how happy in the moment Gideon was when he was dancing with Sarah? The chemistry was just different from On The Way To Bed Hotch/Haley. If only the mail people had lost the head in the mail, Sarah would be the one leading Gideon by hand and not the other way around.
And the man is ridiculously limber.
It makes my mind wander.....the sexiness of Jason Gideon is srsly underrated.
Someone need to future fic up a Reid that has aged into Stage Curmudgeon, bonus if Morgan comes back from Somewhere Else to defrost him with some sweet wooing (I'm sorry, I just watched Princess Bride).
In the mean time, here is young Mandy with really pretty eyes and a truly fugly sweater: Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Mandy Patinkin (Color photos from Bazaar magazine publicity shoot) (http://www.mandypatinkin.net/KNIFE/knifephotos.html)
...and then this, just because, and oh god, I would totally have to track down Chicago Hope now:
Mandy Patinkin kiss Adam Arkin, CBS Press Junket in 1995
He's such a cutie. I still re-watch Chicago Hope time to time and I fall in love with him all over again.
I agree with you about true love connection type romance. But I was thinking more along the lines of quickie/non-commited relationships. One night stand type things. When he was much younger of course.
It's time like these, where I wonder if Gideon would have had more fans if Mandy was younger and more conventionally pretty, surely Dr.House is a bigger jerk then Gideon occasionally acts...
...but then I look at all the OOC bambi!Reid fics and back away from the board postings by crazy MGG fangirls who are internet detectiving the poor guy's current GF, and I think, small fandom is cozy fandom!
I just wish the haters wouldn't clog the Gideon/Reid tag with so much completely OOC Creeper!Gideon fics. Not even in mirrorverse buddy, okay, maybe mirrorverse. I can't see Gideon doing that to Reid, one part because it's wrong, and one part because I actually don't see Gideon as a very sexually driven person, I'm not saying he's Sheldon Cooper, but for him, it'll be a subset of companionship and romance - this is a dude who used his spare time to looking up paintings of birds while his co-workers were hitting the club.
I like Gideon/Reid because it looks hot, but the most belivable I've ever had was when Reid was having a fantasy about it.
I could actually see Gideon having one-night-stands...but the same way Reid would - in the finding himself stage.
....and frankly, if there was going to be a Gideon/Reid non-con, Gideon would be the likelier victim while Reid would be the unsub, MGG himself said that he wants Reid to be written as an unsub if the series goes on long enough, or so I heard, but dude, I hope that they DON'T, just give the boy a medical leave when it ends okay? He's more than earned it...
Like, in terms of potential obsession, while Gideon cares for Reid, he has Sarah, his nature cabin, his trains and birds and stuff, christ, Gideon never struck me as a very sexual or needy of other people person (though he could use some TLC in regards to helping deal with PTSD). Reid on the other hand, he needed Gideon's approval and affection a lot.
Most likely scenario, even though I think Gideon/Reid is hot: Reid hits on Gideon, Gideon gives the "young man you are too young speech", then it's Reid's birthday and he gives Reid the tickets and Reid happily ask if Gideon is coming along and then Gideon points at JJ and RUNS AWAY FAST.
Meaning that Mandy shares a birthday with Mark Twain (as commemorated on today's Google logo), Winston Churchill, and Jonathan Swift, as well as--in a curious bit of synchronicity--Efrem Zimbalist, Junior, who's also become rather well-known for playing crimefighters.
