Left or right?
Mar. 17th, 2007 07:39 pmAs you might know, I really like those little discrepancies within e.g. the plot or the cutting. :-D
Here's another one:
When watching ep 6 (L.D.S.K.) you see Hotchs second gun at his left leg.

But when John Blackwolf is talking about his second gun he says, "Your right instep print's heavier than your left. And since
you don't appear to have a clubbed right foot..." which would express to me, that he wears it at his right leg at that time.
Do you really think he would change his holster?
I don't think so, I think you get used to where it is and you have to, because you can react faster in case of need.
Along with the above mentioned another thing came to my mind.
Hotch e.g. is left-handed, but presses the trigger with the right hand.
I talked to a colleague who is a huntsman about this and he confrmed that one usually uses his "strong" hand to press the trigger.
What is your opinion about this? Do you have any knowledge about this since you are a cop or huntsman or comparable??

Date: Mar. 17th, 2007 07:56 pm (UTC)As for Blackwolf--mistake on the writers' parts I guess. Maybe they know TG/Hotch writes left handed but don't realise that he shoots right handed.
And left handed vs right handed--it has more to do with handedness than shooting--I'd noticed before that Hotch shoots right handed--and despite what your friend told you, I have several left handed relatives/friends, some who use their left hand to do everything, some who only use it for writing--they do most everything else with their right hand. Some of that is natural and some of it (depending on their age) comes from teachers at school trying to force them to be right handed. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that TG golfs right handed as well (although he may not) and while there is a scene in stardom where his character golfs, I don't know enough about golf to know if he's playing rightie or leftie. My father (very briefly) tried golfing--now, he writes right handed but he had to play left handed--and most likely, he was forced to switch to his right hand for writing when he was at school (he's 72).
Handedness isn't carved in stone--it can be quite fluid.

I also think it was a writers mistake... ;-)

That said, I don't know many left-handers who shoot.

Date: Mar. 18th, 2007 04:28 pm (UTC)I'm left handed for writing and stuff like eating with utensils. However, for some things I use my right hand - my trackball and throwing a ball for instance.
And, though I've never shot a pistol, I used to shoot .22 rifles and I always shot right handed. :)

Date: Mar. 18th, 2007 12:12 am (UTC)I happen to be a competitive pistol shooter and I always use the same rig whenever possible. I do practice with both hands, but I am predominantly right handed and all of my holsters and training reflect that.
An ankle holster will often come with a magazine pouch that will strap onto the opposite ankle. I've heard that this is for balance as much as anything. Assuming you have a couple of pounds on one ankle, you might want to even it out. With a couple of full magazines, the pouch would carry a bit of weight to it, assuming law enforcement magazines with over ten rounds in each.
While most pistols are designed for right handers, proper training negates any problems for a left handed shooter, such as manipulating the magazine release or the slide stop release. You could slingshot the slide with your right hand, which is just as fast.
Anyway, that's my two cents.

Date: Mar. 20th, 2007 11:57 am (UTC)I just looked at some screenscaps (thx Stacy) and they showed his holster on the right leg. Argh, THAT would support Blackwolfs statement.
I'm totally confused now and do think that writers, actors, past-production, everyone involved haven't paid attention to it yet.
