Oh, we knew they were going to be renewed (okay, really hoped that CBS and ABC wouldn't be stupid to cancel them since CM is the #1 show on Wednesday per EW) but we just didn't know if everyone was going to return...

Mantegna, Gibson, Moore, Vangsness and Cook all signed 2 year deals. I wonder if Gibson's included the chance to direct more episodes.

Didn't MGG re-up last year for two years? Or is he the only one still without a contract?

Here's the announcement from EW: http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/05/09/criminal-minds-renewed-for-ninth-season/

Somebody's conspicuously missing from the above roll call: what about Jeanne Tripplehorn? It's about time Blake got a bit more character development.

And Joe has hinted that someone could potentially die in the season finale.

MGG renewed for two years last year. So if they go for s10 he will have to renegotiate at the end of next year.

This is great news. Thanks for posting!

I am so glad to hear this, but it makes me wonder. Yesterday I read on a FB feed that a producer from the show had confirmed that a "major character" would die at the end of S8. Since Cook and Vangsness still hadn't renewed their contracts at that point, there was a lot of speculation about whether one of them would be the one to die. With the whole cast now confirmed for next season, however, what other character could be dying? Strauss? Or has the idea been ruled out as of today?

Here's my thought on that: it's one of the following:
Kevin (please!?!?)
Sean (Hotch's brother. he's back for the season finale ;D I love Eric Johnson, who plays Sean, but he's on Rookie Blue now)
Strauss
Beth (since she's on Scandal now)

I'm putting my money on Strauss although I suppose it depends on what your definition of 'major character' is. I feared for AJ and Kirsten but since they've signed contracts, I doubt that anyone will be killed off.

I did wonder about Spencer's mother since Jane Lynch is firmly entrenched in Glee.

The finale ( and thus the death) have already been filmed so it didn't have anything to do with these negotiations.

I hope it is not Reid's mom... He has had enough loss. I vote for Strauss.

Poor Spencer certainly has been through it this year.

Reid certainly has had a horrible year. I don't think that even the writers are cruel enough to kill off Reid's mom?! In fact, I doubt we'll get to see much Reid in the finale considering he had a lot of episodes this season.

Strauss seems like the most obvious option, but I'm still hoping that listing her children is a ploy to through us off.

At this point I'd accept almost any character as long as they're not related to Reid in any way. Favoritism aside, it's getting too repetitive. It's like Reid has become the go-to character whenever the writers want to add angst to the plot. When was the last time something tragic happened to Morgan or Garcia, or even Hotch, for instance? And we haven't even seen Blake do anything productive.

As far as I know, Tripplehorn signed for 2 seasons, so she was already set to appear on S9. Plus they would have to get a new actress to replace her.

Ah ok! Thank you!

Tripplehorn signed for one year, with a second year option. It hasn't been announced if CBS has picked her up for S9 yet.

I know this is hoping beyond hope that since Paget Brewster's pilot didn't get the green light, she could come back as a guest star?

Please not Strauss! I think maybe Agent No-First-Name Anderson? Or maybe Kevin?

Well, since the press release for 8x24, "The Replicator" (http://criminalmindsroundtable.blogspot.de/2013/04/criminal-minds-press-release-for-823.html) lists all three of Strauss' children as guest cast, I'm afraid this doesn't bode well for her. Of course it could be a red herring and I'd hate to see her go but right now I wouldn't bet on her reappearance in S9. I'd be really disgruntled if they took away cookie Anderson from us, though, and I hope he's just there as a pallbearer or something like that once again.

yeah, I know, it's probably not a good thing to have a reason to meet her kids.
