I thought it was a solid episode -it didn't try and do too much, but it introduced the new agent well and had a few interesting twists in it, I'm hoping the scene at the end will become the overarching plot for the season, since it seems sinister enough to explore in multiple episodes.
I'm really liking Kate so far. But I haven't actually disliked a CM character yet. I'm even one of the few people who liked Seaver. I agree that it was a solid episode that didn't try to do too much. And that last scene was a hint at what could be some interesting stuff.
So glad this show is back. This is my one "I won't ever quit you" show that I'll keep at no matter how bad it gets, but I'm glad that were back to some good stuff.
I liked it, and I liked Kate. She seems to fit in with the team well already. I just hope she isn't a replacement goldish love interest for Reid… It's way too soon (imho) and it would be nice to introduce a woman character without making her a man's love interest, you know? Criminal Minds is usually pretty good about that.
I wish they could have shown the last victim talking her way out of it before the unsub cut off her arm, you know? Sometimes I wonder what happens to the survivors after their "fifteen minutes."
It was a good episode with a lot of points in its favor. The misdirection of the UnSub was tactful and alleviated the 'show-the-bad-guy-in-the-first-5 mins' standard that the show has fallen victim to in recent years. I was pleased to see a victim who was smart enough to manipulate herself into an opportunity to escape - I'm tired of the screaming, pleading violence porn of these storylines, so that twist was nice to see.
I had doubts about Jennifer Love Hewitt when I heard she'd been cast, but I have to admit that she won me over almost immediately. Let's hope that she continues to inject a little humor here and there because it's sorely needed.
Finally, I'm waiting to see how the season-long UnSub storyline goes. The writers are committed to another Replicator-like story this season, but The Replicator only ever showed up during sweeps weeks or before holiday breaks, so it might just be like that again. That felt pretty manipulative, in my opinion, but who knows?
