I honestly couldn't tell you much about tonight's UnSub. He felt like an add on even though he was the impetus for the story. Character moments! Loved the team coming together. The sad (REID 'nough said) and the happy. JJ, Garcia and yummy ice cream. Too many bits to mention. I liked the way the episode was shot, the transitions and the color filters. I just thoroughly enjoyed the whole episode. Maybe it wasn't the classic form of a CM ep, but that was just fine by me.
I felt the same thing about the unsub, and i felt they really didn't neet to make him obsessed about birds to explain Gideon's obsession's with birds (it didn't need one) and, I don't know if I lost it, but I don't remember a (good) explanation about the bird thing.
I agree with you in the rest though. I loved the team in this episode :3
It seems like Gideon became fascinated with birds in part because the UnSub was fascinated with them back in 1978. In trying to understand the UnSub's behavior back then Gideon discovered a lifelong passion. At least that was my take on it.
I also agree about the unsub. I didn't feel that his motivations were ever adequately explained, and unless I missed it, why he'd kept the one woman (Tara?) but killed the others. But that was the one weak link in an otherwise excellent episode.
I missed the beginning scene but i thought that it was a very well done episode. I loved Ben Savage and young Rossi in the flashback scenes-- those were done very well. Reid being emotional was acted upon very well as well as the rest of the BAU (minus Hewitt's character since she didn't know him )
I thought it was a very creepy unsub but glad it wasn't that violent and gross like some other Criminal Minds episodes.
If someone can fill me in in first 10 minutes of episode, it would be great!
I "loved" how they basically managed to kill Gideon without showing Mandy Patinkin. It was just so unlike CM to not show the victim. Also, it's nice that Gideon just happened to have a photo of a Nelson's Sparrow in his living room that he could shoot in case this unsub showed up after 30+ years. *rolls eyes*
The unsub was very underdeveloped. I hated that it was never explained why he kept Tara alive for 30+ years, why he insisted on breaking his victims' hips or why he was obsessed with birds.
