In reply to the comment above, I would like to politely ask if you could please show respect for the victims of yesterday's tragedy. The postponement of a television show is small price to pay in exchange for a greater sensitivity towards those suffering today. I am not sure if your meaning is disrespectful, but without knowing your motives I can only assume so. Thank you, and again, my intention is not to offend but merely to clarify the meaning behind your comment.

...

Excuse me? You have no idea as to my feelings about yesterday, and you can stow your "polite request". I asked the question because I didn't see how postponing an episode would either help or hurt the victims of the shooting. It's a nice gesture, but the people who lost loved ones are going to be hurting just as much two weeks from now as they are today.

It's a mark of respect, nothing more. I lost a loved one six months ago and for days afterward, the thought of stepping into a hospital was enough to make me throw up. As a medical professional, you can see how this would be a problem. But as time passed, it got easier and the letters "ICU" no longer make me ill. No, two weeks don't make a big difference, but by airing something similar so soon, the network is making the statement that it doesn't care about the pain of the victims, only the ratings of its shows. Again, I am not trying to offend, but I do understand a bit more about your motivation and would like to hear your thoughts about yesterday, beyond the expletive you posted earlier.

Given all that the victims and their families will have to grapple with over the next weeks and months, I doubt they give a fig about TV.

Here is not the place to discuss my feelings on yesterday's events. If you want those, contact me through my personal LJ.

While I agree with you - I think the idea is not to "toss more fuel on the fire" so to speak.

I can understand the idea of them putting off this episode as well from a safety standpoint of the show itself. Sensitivity is high now and if they show this, people are going to flip out and be offended/upset more.

It's a safe move for the show and producers to make.

And honestly last thing I want is the fucking communist commission coming down any more on my entertainment than they already have been.

I agree! Our entertainment is so much more important and vital to the welfare of the human race then those antiquated notions of compassion and respect for the pain of others! Right behind you both!!

(And no, I am not the post-er either above or below this comment.)

the network is making the statement that it doesn't care about the pain of the victims, only the ratings of its shows

because that's exactly what they only care about. Postponing the episode is nothing more than bringing positive propaganda the network.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the one that is very closely similar to what happened yesterday, only it didn't happen in one day on the show, right? If so, then I can understand the reasoning. I don't necessarily like it, but I can see the networks' dilemmas right now.

I totally understand it. I mean, there was a movie going into production about a man hijacking an airplane, letting all the people off, and then crash landing it into the wilderness, right before 9-11 and they pulled it.
Now, the shooting isn't quite as big a deal as 9-11, but the story line is still very similar to what happened and out of respect for families and the fact that they don't want a bunch of complaints about insensitivity, they probably pulled it. We'll probably get it eventually, just at a later date.

Buffy got hit with a similar coincidence, as I recall, and they did air the episode later.

Seriously? Which episode was it, do you remember?

And god, you have to love a man who tells his fans to go get their hands on a bootleg copy of his work. :)

Can't understand the cancelling, every case has relations to real life.

If the using and buying and selling of weapons were prohibited, there were no cases like this.

Brilliant. Well done; you've solved it neatly, then. Certainly a disaffected, antisocial loner with homicidal urges would never have been able to put his hands on a gun if it were illegal.

What marvelous arrogance.

why don't you stfu and sign in?

postponing the episode isn't gonna bring the dead alive, if that's what you're so keen to hear.

and there is the possibility that the episode won't be shown at all this season. Which is being ridiculous, like all the other episodes are super original.

people need to stop being so f***ing sensitive.

sensitivity is good, but when... than with all people.
That means no crime in TV shows. *lol*
UNIMAGINABLE!!!!

seriously. I'm a freaking college student too, but it's ridiculous to be all OMG I DON'T WANT TO WATCH THE EPISODE BECAUSE OMG I'M SO RETARDED.

Get over it, geez. You can be hit by a bus while crossing the sreet.

It's really pissing me off the moronic overreacting from everyone.

there wouldn't be ANY tv shows then since no matter how much they say, every episode is indeed related to real life. They wouldn't be pulling it off if the shooting had happened, let's say on China, or hell ,any other country.

I think it's very admirable to postpone it. It's not like they're pulling it completely after all, just postponing. It's a wonderful and thoughtful gesture. Charlton Heston refused to postpone a gun show or something right after Columbine - IN Columbine. I'm glad the execs for CM are being more considerate.

I don't see why pulling it will help, but if enough people do then that is reason enough. It is mass entertainment after all. All I hope is that when we get the season 2 DVD's that there is a note included so I can watch the eps in the intended order.

In all honesty, I'm thankful for the postponment of the episode. The obviously cuts close to the skin with what happened at VA Tech. I know Criminal Minds takes after real events, but this just cuts too close, you know.

I agree. As a college student, I was a little freaked out and I know everyone here at my campus is a little more aware and clingy to one another than we used to be, just a reaction to something that really hit close to home. I am glad, I don't want to think about it any more than necessary, ya know?

Anywho, my prayers go out. :)
