Breaking: 'Criminal Minds' drops A.J. Cook

There was blood shed on the set of Criminal Minds today, only this time it was behind the scenes.

Sources confirm that producers have opted not to pick up A.J. Cook’s contract option for next season. Which is a fancy way of saying girlfriend was fired.

Meanwhile, fellow cast member Paget Brewster is in talks to remain a series regular, although her episode count is expected to be reduced.

The decision to cut Cook — and cut back Brewster — was made for financial reasons.

All I know is: if the decision that CBS made is really final then it's also a "Good Bye, Criminal Minds!" from me. I watch because of the whole - cases + all 7 team members. Cut off one completely and cut back one to a background member and it's not the show that I once loved. I don't wanna see repeatedly how UnSubs get tackled down by Morgan, that's a boy's show and not that high-quality and intelligent show we're used to. Point.

Hi guys,

I know you're probably all sick to death of posts bearing the sad news about AJ and Paget. Like many of you, I'm determined not to let this happen without a fight (or at the very least, a monumental fuss).

I've set up a crude enough site as a central place for info, story links, links to other support pages and groups, and links to petitions and contact details for CBS.

I'd be delighted if anyone wants to chip in with this - it's very easy to update, and if anyone is more savvy than I am, in terms of enabling comments and discussion boards, I would be most grateful for their help.

I just don't know what else to, but I want to do something useful.

UPDATE: CBS' 'Criminal Minds' Cuts Female Cast But Will Add New Female Cast Member

UPDATE TUESDAY 11AM: A source close to CBS stressed that the casting changes on Criminal Minds were a creative, not financial decision, and a way to "refresh a veteran drama series." A new regular female cast member will be brought in sometime next season to fill the void that will be left by Cook's departure.

Back in April, I got a google alert about an article that stated CM was bringing in another actress for a recurring role...

I wonder if they were planning to do this back in April.

I know it says "guest role" but I have to wonder, is she the "replacement"?

ETA: Apparently she played the cops sister in the season finale. I didn't recognise her! Thanks to cherryfruit (confirmed on imdb)

OK, so i'm a casual watcher and as such i'm not as familiar with Prentis or JJ.
I don't mean to be insulting, but neither character really stood out for me. Not the way Garcia, Reid, Morgan, and Hotch have.
I do think they're both fine actresses, and talented women, so my question here is what were some of the standout moments for either character?
