so I came across this post over at the Criminal Minds Fanatic blog, and I've begun to notice that, not only are the critics being predominantly negative about the show, but a lot of people in the fandom have already dismissed the coming season. personally, I think the writers will continue creating the show we know and love, despite this sudden upheaval, and I at least want to give the show a chance. I'm just kind of curious, and I think it would be interesting to know why exactly people intend to watch or not watch the show this coming season.

Really? People are being negative?

I thought for sure that all this press the shows been getting would gain more of an interest from people. Negative press or not - it still gets the shows name out there and might make people curious.

I plan on watching this season. I was never a huge fan of Gideon and I wasn't thrilled about them adding a new addition to the cast but I really liked Joe Mantegna on Joan of Arcadia and am really looking forward to what he will bring to the show. I think he might just be be a good addition. :)

I'll probably keep watching the show, casually at least, but for me it's not so much the changes to the show as that I'm finding it's getting old for me.

Critics have never very positive in their reactions toward the show. I've heard it called "generic" among other things and I have to agree. The fact that there were so many Spencer-centric storylines last season just cements for me the idea that the writers have boxed themselves in, with only a few stand out characters.

Addiotionally, I think that, while Mandy is an extremely talented actor, he's being stifled, creatively, as Gideon. I don't think that adding another character is the best idea, so much as they might better focus on further developing the characters they already have.

dude, if you're a fan of the show, you're going to watch it even if you think it's going to be shit. maybe it's only for the gubler or maybe its only to see jus exactly HOW bad it's going to be, but you're going to watch it.

i know i will.

My negative comments are solely reserved for Mandy Patinkin and the unprofessional way handled his exit. I originally tuned into the show because he was in it. As it turned out, however, he was one of my least favorite characters. The problem I see is that many of the interpersonal dynamics in the show revolved around each character's relationship to Gideon. There are ways to handle his departure certainly, but the writing is going to have to be superb. Thank goodness the show has some of the best in the business.

I think Patinkin is a talented actor, but he has itchy feet - this isn't the first time he's upped and left a show with little to no notice, he did the very same thing with both Chicago Hope (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001597/) and Dead Like Me (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348913/).

Maybe he's a primadonna, maybe he's just easily bored, but whatever the case, it's unprofessional behavior. I have to wonder how many more times he thinks he can do this before he stops being offered such excellent roles.

It never even occurred to me to stop watching it at this point. They've changed an actor and a character but the writers are still the same so I have faith that they'll do a good job. I figure, I will miss Gideon and wish that Mandy Patinkin had not left but you know, I also really loved Elle and wasn't happy that she was no longer on the show but I still watched and enjoyed. And I even ended up being interested in Emily more than I expected.

If nothing else, I would figure people would be even MORE interested in watching to see how they handle Gideon's departure and what the new character is like. And cripes, after the way they ended last season, how could I *not* watch? They're threatening my favorite character and trying to take him down and Emily is the mole? I have no choice but to watch to see what they try to do to Hotch!

The only thing I'm really disappointed in with regards to the new casting is that I was really excited at the thought of Harvey Keitel being cast so I was a bit let down that it wasn't him after all.

They've only just started showing season 2 in Australia, but I can't see myself not tuning in for season 3 as well.

I'm going to keep watching...
I really didn't care for Gideon. I have faith in the writers. That's too bad we're going to lose some Gideon fans but I'm sure the show will gain fans, too.

i was doubtful until i saw who they cast.

come on.

fat tony?

with that actor and the excellent writers, i think that criminal minds will still be the show we know and love. and the people who stop watching it just because patinkin left aren't true fans - they're just doing exactly what he did.

The writers stopped creating the show I knew and loved around episode 4 of 2nd season. After "Revelations", I pretty much stopped considering myself a fan of the show and wanted to stop watching it... except that I am a Mandy Patinkin fan.

So I'll be watching his episode(s), but probably won't stick around after that. However, I really hope the show continues to do well in the ratings.

Critics have been negative about this show since Day One. They've gotten a lot of mileage out of being negative about it and will continue to do so because it creates the sort of controversy they thrive on, I guess.

As a writer, one has to take risks, and we have amazingly talented writers who can pull off those leaps. Hey, not everyone likes it, but that's life. I'm gonna keep watching, and I think we're going to have an amazing third season.

About the reviewers: they know they can be negative because they know that we aren't the type of fans who'll throw Moltov Cocktails through their windows. It's easy to be negative and create controversy for something small rather than something big.

They're just being cowards.

I'll definitely still be watching the show, but i think the new addition to the cast seems to be too much like Gideon. I have no idea how good the actor is, but if the writing stays the same (excellent!) and they manage not to make the new guy Gideon-like i think the show won't loose too much of its audience.

And hey they say the only bad press is no press.

Not exactly. My whole paternal side is Italian, I know it when I see it. =]

Mandy was a HORRIBLE actor. Some of his scenes were so painfully forced that it was hard to believe. His leave will be no loss to the show, after all, it's not Mandy that makes the show, but the whole cast.

Actually, I'm glad the critics and the Hive Vagina are being negative. Because everything the bulk of the critics give and the Hive Vagina something the thumbs-down, I love it. Whenever they go on and on about how it'll be the best yet (*cough* Season 7 of CSI *cough*), it sucks without fail.

So. This is a good sign. Trust me. ^^

I for one will continue to watch, despite what the critics say. They all said that "The Black Donnellys" was great, yet it turned out to be one big suckfest.

It's also like what mirrorscrack said, most of those people who say they won't watch the show anymore most likely will anyway. It's all freakin' smack.

As for Joe, I actually think he'll do a great job. He's a wonderful actor in my opinion and he blends in nicely with the cast.

Mandy isn't and wasn't the entire show, I have no clue why people are basing their prospective viewship around the primadonna.

I probably try to see the new season with open mind, but I'm a strongly character's dinamics kind of viewer, so... It happens to me in X-Files with Mulder going away, and, recently, at NCIS, when they kill Kate.
It's not about Mandy, it's not about the rest of the crew... it's about a team I loved, and now... I just don't know.
As I said, I'll give it a try *shrugs*

Anyone else pissed about the addition to the BAU being an older guy who sounds a lot like Agent Ryan from episode 1.15 - "Unfinished Business"?
