Please post the information in this community rather than a link to an outside source. I have had several complaints regarding this. Thank you.
I'm sorry, but what you're asking me to do is to break copyright law--which, if the owner of said copyright complained, could get this community shut down, I hope you realise this.
I've seen other people link to articles on sites that aren't the CMF blog and have not noticed any requests for them to break the law and post entire articles on this site. So, why is the CMF blog so special?
I find it hard to believe that a mod would really ask someone to break the law because other people are too lazy to click a link.
Posting a link to information on another site is not advertising. Perhaps you should change the rules so that everyone is treated the same, because they aren't right now. If you're not going to allow links to informational posts on the CMF Blog? Then there shouldn't be links to anything, anywhere, ever; it should all be posted right here in the comm.
Nice double standard you've got going, eh.
You're basing this decision on hearing from a small sample of the comm...unless it's the majority of the comm emailing you, which I seriously doubt (perhaps a poll to gauge the true feelings of the members of the comm on the issue? Yeah, I didn't think so.). Ah, well, squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.
I'd say it's your comm, your rules--but this rule is not listed anywhere, other than this post...however, I'll do what you request, since you are the "mod".
It IS copyright infringement to repost an entire article, pictures taken by other people (ie promo shots, episode stills, etc.), scans of magazine articles, etc, without permission from the copyright holder. It doesn't matter if you include a link citing your source or not, it is all infringement and can get a comm closed down, if you steal from the wrong person/entity. Just because it's posted to the internet does not mean it's free for reposting. (I've seen a LOT of posts here that infringe copyright.)
Posting an excerpt from an article (with or without a link, but citing where it's from) or a link to the information, are both legal under copyright law.
You call it defensive, I call it cynical. *shrug* And, btw, the CMF blog is NOT my site.
