SPOILER SPOILER SPOILERPANTS.

We will learn a terrifying secret from Reid's childhood that explains why he's so attracted to serial killers. According to Matthew Gray Gubler: "I just read an episode that has an incredibly dark history for Reid. He had a terrible thing that happened in his childhood that comes out, causing delayed nightmares. It explains why he's so attracted to serial killers. The last page, I was like, it all makes sense. It's super dark...like cable-style dark. I'm sure the fans will hate it, and I'll love it."

According to Gubler, the secrets of Reid's childhood are revealed in part because of a Beverly Hills, 90210 alum. "They're everywhere these days!" Gubler told me. "We have an episode where Luke Perry plays a psychotic polygamist cult leader. I'm always getting held hostage by teen idols—first James Van Der Beek was a guest star and held Reid hostage, and this time it's Luke Perry. I actually saw Scott Baio out front, and I swear he looked at me. I want George Michael to hold me hostage in season eight." Hee. I love this guy. And suffice to say, Perry's character sets off Reid's nightmares, which lead him back into his very scary past.- E!online

I'm so over all this intense dark Reid focus. Can he not like geek out happily for once? All of the plots they think up for him are good INDIVIDUALLY-- falling for someone he was assigned to protect, schizophrenic parent, bullied in childhood, addicted to drugs, kidnapped, and now w/e this is but RLY?

I feel like the writers are OVERfocusing on Reid which is something I never thought I'd say. At the same, I trust the Gube so idk

I very muchly disagree ;) I adore episodes where they delve into Reid's dark past. The fact that Gubler himself said it was "cable-style dark" just has me even more excited! We've gotten so many snippets of his childhood throughout the course of the show, and it's great that they're becoming even more daring with what they're including. Plus... these eps tend to give the Gube endless opportunities to express just how utterly adorable and brilliant he can be :D

I just hope we get something equally for some of the other characters too (hoping for finally some background on Hotch and Emily here)

Seriously? I am both excited as hell and annoyed as hell. I love him, and love the Reid trauma... but there's going to be a point where I just have to go, "OH COME ON! All this shit cannot happen to one person in one lifetime!" I mean, I know it can, but my own statistical nerdiness is ITCHING.

Then again, I say all that, and I could still absolutely adore the story arc. *sigh* I guess I'll have to wait and see what they do.

Honestly, when I first read this on E!Online, I was so excited I couldn't sit still. I have to admit, while I love the show, I wasn't particularly looking forward to Season 4 (the "who-blew-up" cliffie didn't do much for me). I was happy it was coming back, but beyond that, it was just so I'd have some decent TV to watch again.

But this made it so much better! I don't care how unrealistic it is for one person to suffer so much random trauma; REID.TORTURE.ROCKS!

Hey, Reid said it himself: he's never known a normal day in his life.

And I'm already driving myself crazy with possible ideas for what it could be (polygamy leader + terrible thing = attraction to serial killers??). Of course, I'll have to stop that soon, or I'll never make it to September...Or worse, I'll build it up so much in my head that it can only be a letdown when the ep finally airs :(

Still, consider this fangirl exstatic!!
