If I was a criminal, I'd be... Something like Johnny Marcone in The Dresden Files. The mafia boss with a heart, which doesn't make them any less a criminal but hey, at least a criminal with style and a Even I Have Standards, you know.

And in the interests of bringing something (other than fic I am working on) and also because it makes me all happy and full of squee - what are you favourite moments of the Team As Family in the show? (And the best moments of Hotch Being Mom. Because I'd love feel less alone in my notions about this).

I love the Chinese restaurant dinner scene where Reid can't use chopsticks...I can't recall which ep that's in at the moment, it's season 1. And the similar dinner-together scene at the end of "Instincts," it's so warm and family-like, to the point that it makes me pretty darn sad every time I watch it that Reid isn't there.

I also love the dynamics of the group in the hospital after Garcia is shot. JJ's the information-getter, Emily is the reassurer, Hotch in in control, Rossi just wants to do something, Morgan is emotional and Reid is already thinking about how to solve the case.

The Chinese restuarant scene is the one I use as one of the reasons why a show about serial killers is my source of happy (and oh, I have to find a decent download of Instincts that actually lets me watch the end - Amazon just isn't fast enough for my patience).

OMG, "Hotch as Mom", you win the million-dollar prize for Things Bibliothekara Can't Get Enough Of.

Let's see:
- Reid answering John Blackwolf's question in The Tribe, and "Reid, is your name Samuel?"
-Hotch sending Garcia flowers after Blood Hungry, and patiently explaining to Gideon why he needs to not steamroll over people.
-The beginning of Minimal Loss, when JJ and Morgan find out Prentiss and Reid are in the ranch, and Derek yells "HOTCH!" in that we all have used a million times.
-Prentiss and Reid ganging up on Derek about hitting on Jordan, at the end of ..Catching Out, I think?
-Anything involving "Rossi is an Awesome Stepdad/Crazy Uncle/Mentor Guy": The "Emily's Hungover" gesture in Instincts, taking Jordan under his wing, consoling Emily during the whole ordeal in Demonology, and of course the de-lovely "snap out of it" talk to Hotch in Omnivore.
And there so better be family stuff involved in rescuing Hotch from the Evil Scrawny Bastard during the premiere.

(Can I also say, looking at your other favorite shows: are you my twin? Or snuck in and stolen half of my brain while I wasn't paying attention?)

If you like as a twin sappy Australian political science/history majors who has, upon viewing the elevator scene been tempted to interpret Hotchs' expression as "play nicely with your little brother, Morgan or Mom is going to have to separate you both", then yes brain twin ;) In more serious news the fact that there might be another West Wing and Criminal Minds fan out there makes me very happy.

Rossi is the best awesome Stepdad, really (or he really is a Magnificent Bastard but Pratchett help you if you try to harm his family. Even if it took them a little while to warm to Mom's new boyfriend *g*). There will be family stuff involved in rescuing Hotch. This must be. And if the ESB (evil scrawny bastard) is lucky, they'll only give him over to Morgan and Rossi. If unlucky, then the girls are going to be dealing with him and well, you don't hurt any of them, but seriously, Do Not Hurt Mom.

Hee. Honey, my TV Boyfriend Continuum (which has it's current endpoint at Hotch) starts with Samuel Norman Seaborn. He was my first love, all through high school. *looks at Sam* *looks at Hotch* Yeah, I seem to have a type, don't I? The two shows are more similar than one might think; brave/damaged/awesome government workers trying their best against a system/world arrayed against them. (And I was a double major too, though mine was history and literature. I think if I had tried history/gov, my head might have exploded, so props to you.)

I think that's why I also like Hotch/Garcia, though I don't ship them. I like that Mom occasionally has another Mom to fall back on; they are her babies, even big strong Hotch.

OMFG YOU LIKE PRATCHETT TOO?!>! I'm writing a Hotch/Death fic right now (though writer's block has struck at Chapter Three.) And yes, while Rossi and Morgan are big and blustery, it's Reid and the women you really gotta worry about. It's subtle, but they WILL CUT YOU if you hurt their team. Or shoot you in the head. Or kill you with their brain. (It's weird. I dig the strong silent Papa Wolf thing, but I have a real desire that it be Prentiss who finds Hotch and that his tall frame be leaning on her shoulder. )

This is actually, this is mine as well (Sam is my favourite, though Charlie, CJ and Toby are definitely not lesser favourites). I do seem to have a thing for the 'decent and plays well with others (mostly, except when they leave a 'Sam Seaborn' shaped hole in the wall) type' That also probably explains my Band of Brothers and Generation Kill favourites, but that's another story (I have written something of a TWW/CM crossover though, of sorts).

*nods at this* Garcia might be the second youngest of the family after Reid but really, she looks after her older siblings and Mom (and sometimes Dad). And after this, Hotch might be allowed outside without bulletproof casing. Might. In about a year.

I do indeed (Good Omens is one of my Books Of Comfort) and OOOH. Hotch/Death fic you say. I might need to go and check that out (once my week has settled down slightly) and make gleeful comments (I kind of want to think of Aziraphale and Crowley observations).

-The ending of Empty Planet, when Hotch says "Don't cheat," and Reid does.
-The beginning of Scared to Death, when Reid and Morgan are stuck in the elevator and screaming "HOTCH!"

That elevator scene was the one that convinced the friend who I was introducing to the show that when I said Hotch was Mom, I really wasn't just making this up out of thin air (I <3 that scene. Despite my fear of being stuck in a lift).
