Is anyone else finding this episode incredibly tragic and disturbing? In the majority of episodes, there is typically an innocent victim who is rescued at the end, but this episode... just isn't like normal Criminal Minds at all. Most episodes usually bring closure either for the victims or for the audience. With so many senseless deaths and with a sympathetic unsub who cannot stop himself, I just don't see how this can have the typical ending. This is just pure tragedy.

This is a very depressing episode....it's just...intense, tragic, depressing...and Hotch is making me want to punch him. Yes, he's been through hell, but you don't yell at Garcia...but yeah. I agree with you, wholeheartedly.

You'd think so. But at the same time, shows like this remind me why I love this show so much...♥

I was so angry at this episode, I was yelling at the screen in the first 5 minutes.

I did find it a good episode though, but you're right it was very dark.

I actually thought it was a very typical CM maneuver. Humanizing the unsubs this way is not rare for this show at all. There's been a large number of cases where the killers had a tragic past and you couldn't help but feel some sympathy for them. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but there was nothing unexpected about it, IMO. It's actually one of the reasons this show is so good. It doesn't give the audience a flat stereotyped bad guy and a flat stereotyped innocent victim.

this. a thousand times this. i know for a fact i wouldn't enjoy the show as much if it always wrapped everything up with a tidy little bow.

What killings ever really have sense to them? Sure, there's reasons behind when people kill but there's never any true sense. In Darrin's psychosis, no one was part of it until they touched him but as soon as they did, they were the enemy. In his psychotic world in his head, it made complete sense, just like in all the others unsubs heads.

From how I took it, the victims all became the unsubs father when they put their hands on him. So, to me, they all became the one person the unsub was looking for and therefore, the same type.

This, I too thought it was a typical type of CM show. Also a good example of why it's such an excellent show and not a typical crime drama.

All I know is that some people should not be legally allowed to have long hair and eat lollipops. Dear god.

I think Kirsten Vangsness directed this episode beautifully.

We get a glimpse of Hotch pulling a 'Elle'--he didn't shoot the bad guy but he pretty much didn't stop it either.

I like these disturbing episodes because sometimes the plot gets pulled down with the bad guy must get caught story. Also, I love to be shocked and haunted by what I watch (hence why I'm a huge horror film fan).

Jon Cassar (from 24) directed this ep, though I'd LOVE to have the cast step behind the camera for an episode or two. Can you imagine Gubler's interpretation of an episode? <3 <3

OH--on her twitter feed she said she directed this one...I wonder if she co-directed or something?

I think she "RT'd" a post that Jon Cassar wrote on Twitter.

This episode scared me a little bit just for all the blood that was being spilt. I seem to be having issues with blood lately. It was a good episode, disturbing but very well done.

Yeah, it's definitely different for them. Very tragic with no way out. But the fact that it is different also relates it to real life. There isn't always a happy ending. This one was happy-ish, anyway...I suppose.
