So, the past few episodes...has anyone else noted how...unhealthy...Reid looks? He seems paler and with shadows under his eyes. I'm wondering if it's me, or just awkward lighting and makeup. Given the hinting from TPTB about Reid coming back to the forefront in the latter half of the season, I'm curious.

He's always had shadows under his eyes, but MGG has been in a lot of pain lately and has been in and out of surgery a lot for his knee, so that might be what you're seeing?

like [livejournal.com profile] meg_tdj said, The Gube has naturally dark eyes and he only just recently got off Crutches/Cane/TG dragging him around.

But the Gube is directing an upcoming episode, so he might be able to convince the writers to bring back his drug use, but I don't think that Reid as a character would go back to drugs. I think he asked for Non-narcotic drugs when he got hit with the Anthrax.

Ehh. I think he looks good anyways.

I've also thought he looked a bit unhealthy, but I think it's been because his hair has looked awfully unkempt lately, lol.

Ehh, thanks for the correction. I really need to rewatch season 3 and 4. lol.

i think it's probably because he's had to deal with so much stress with his body because of his knee throughout the past months. i would say he looks tired versus fully unhealthy. i kindly volunteer to rub his back and help him take a nap though... :) just sayin'.

I don't think he looks unhealthy at all, in fact I think he looks LOADS healthier than he did in season 1, when he was actually ill. And the eps we're seeing now his knee was much less of an issue for him.

Any details on that illness of Gubler's in season 1? Please? :)

I'm a tad vague myself but the reason he was so skinny at the time was that he had some kind of condition that prevented him from eating solid food. He had it fixed. This is why he's put on like 15 pounds or so since, and looks much less emaciated than he used to.

yeah. if he'd cut that hair he'd probably look better. i guess i'm a sucker for his nerdy hair from earlier seasons. he's so darned adorkable.

I think he needs a haircut. That's really it.
And like everyone else has said, I think a lot of it might be because of his knee and everything. I'm sure once it heals more he'll be looking better.

And I really hope they don't bring back the drug addiction. :| They didn't handle it well the first time, which ok because it meant he didn't have to be on them for long because, let's face it, I hated seeing Reid on drugs. Anyways. Yeah. I don't wanna see them handle it badly again, or worse, handle it well and me get all angsty over Reid being angsty.

I think he needs a haircut.

Oh yes.

And about Reid on drugs - I wouldn't have minded if they had handled it seriously back in season 2. But they just sort of let it drop after it got interesting, and just mentioned it in passing later on (and once more than in passing with Elephant's Memory). They should have had the courage to go through with it - or leave it entirely.

Well, in CSI, Warrick (rip. :( ) had both a gambling problem and a drug problem. Both were resolved fairly quickly. I can't think of any other CBS shows involving that, but I'm pretty sure there aren't many who've touched on a drug problems that deeply. I think CBS just doesn't like drugs. CM writers probably didn't wanna risk getting the show canned for something as simple as that.

Either way, I'm still kinda glad they dropped it quickly.

I'm ok with it long, but not THAT long. Like, its making him look too skinny and emphasizing that he hasn't been well lately. He should at least trim it a little.

And yeah, it was bad. I found a picture he took of it somewhere and I cringed so hard. Like, it looked so bad MY knee started throbbing. That, and he said that when he went to the doctor, they said out of all the knees they'd ever seen jacked up, his was in the top ten of the worse they've ever seen.

And yeah, it would've been interesting if they had touched on how his treatment was going outside of him attending that one support group in an episode. You can't kick a drug like that THAT easily. But, again, I don't think CBS likes drug use.

I thought he was like me and just naturally beanpole-ish. I didn't even know he was sick. O_O

he was being awesome...

he was dancing in the club and when he attempted to make another one of his best moves, he failed and fucked up his knee. hence, him getting shot in the first episode of the season; thus the crutches/cane. but he's off them now!
