I completely agree. I was a HUGE fan of CSI back in the day and I never liked CSI: Miami or CSI: NY. I don't know why they have to make 80 versions of the same show.
That's hilarious. XD I agree with this person. This spin-off does not seem like a good idea. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but I'm mostly concerned with preserving the quality of CM. That's what comes first. Plus these new characters don't sound all that interesting. At least not in comparison.
While there are many things that sound lame on paper but once you watch it are actually way better (e.g. every Joss Whedon show), but I am not getting that feeling from this.
But I also agree that my main concern is how it will affect CM. If I don't dig the spinoff I'll just try to ignore its existence, but the fact remains we're still going to be subjected to at least one Grey's/PP-esque crossover which I am so not looking forward to. While many people worry that CM will decline in quality, citing the fate of Joss Whedon's shows when he went off to play with Firefly, Grey's is actually pretty good this season, so I'm trying to remain cautiously optimistic on that front. :/
I'm probably one the rare hard core CM fans that really am excited for this spin-off. I've highly enjoyed the NCIS spin-off and can only imagine that CBS has learned their lesson with the CSI spin-offs and their falling ratings do to crappy storylines and actors that seem to not really care anymore. Because the NCIS spin-off has been blowing my mind these past few episodes. So I have no worries that CBS will look to that as a insparation then CSI Miami/CSI NY.
Plus Forest Whitaker is on it, and I'm as huge of a fangirl as it gets when it come sto him and his movies. I even dugged the Twilight Zone remake he did for UPN.
Yeah, I feel like it is hard to judge the characters yet based on the inherently horrendous descriptions that are released for upcoming shows, but I have to admit that I'm having trouble getting around the whole "outside the FBI's bureaucracy" thing...I still really can't see how that will work...
I don't know whether the "spin off" (which it won't be according to everything we've heard so far - it's a franchise) will be any good. I do know that CM has been piss-poor recently, and I bet it's because the writers' attention is elsewhere. If the last two episodes' plots had plodded any slower they would have fossilized in their own footsteps. US Networks I do not understand.
Basically my thoughts are this: Any spin off takes away from the original and is never as good. The one exception I've found was Torchwood being as good as Doctor Who, and completely engaging on it's own.
NCIS: LA? Ughs. NCIS has gone downhill as well.
Law and Order? Awesome - SVU has turned into a soap opera starring the two most boring characters on there, and CI was horrid for a while.
CSI? Laughable pretend!science usage made even worse in the spin offs. No thank you.
Those are just two that come to mind offhand. Even look at comedy spin offs.
They cancel good, intelligent shows - (CBS, I'm eyeing you here, not mentioning Fox) such as Jericho and 11th Hour to put on more spin off shit? Dude, keep something original around.
There's bound to be more interest. And if nothing else, you can be proud you WERE original.
This was a very funny piece. Thank you for posting it.
As for this spinoff, I just don't get where they're coming from, and I agree with this article about wondering what the heck a "rogue" profiler does and how exactly one operates "outside" the FBI. What are they, vigilante profilers?
The reason we have spinoffs is the same reason movies have sequels. Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don't. The CSI franchise has apparently made them work, but I haven't watched original CSI since Grissom left, and while I used to like Miami, it's become so far-fetched in the last couple of years that I'm considering dropping it in favour of "Castle."
I thought the article was sarcastic enough, funny at times. I *love* (note:sarcasm) how he basis his opinion off the casting calls and other little spoilers before the spin off has even aired. I seem to be among the few who are interested in the spin off. I honestly think he is over reacting.
